Streaming Shows Casting in Atlanta: What's Actually Filming in 2026

  • Atlanta is still one of the biggest production markets in the United States, but 2026 is its weakest year in about a decade. Georgia recorded roughly $2 billion in direct spend across about 280 productions, down from $2.3 billion and less than half the 2022 peak.
  • The work that remains is real and it is streaming-heavy. Netflix, Prime Video, Hulu, Apple TV+, Paramount+, Peacock, Starz and HBO Max have all shot in Georgia during 2026.
  • Different shows use different background casting companies. Central Casting Georgia, Hylton Casting, Casting TaylorMade, Rose Locke Casting, On Location Casting and CAB Castings were all booking Georgia productions in 2026. Register with several, not one.
  • Non-union background in Atlanta has been posting between roughly $100 and $182 a day depending on the production. Union scale is $231 per 8 hours.
  • Georgia is a right-to-work state, which means you can work a union production without joining the union.
  • Minors must be registered through the Georgia Department of Labor before working, and productions must have a certified child labor coordinator on set.
  • Georgia's incentive is unchanged: up to 30%, transferable, no annual cap, no sunset.

Atlanta spent a decade as the busiest production city in America outside Los Angeles, and a lot of the advice written about it still assumes those conditions. It is worth starting with the honest picture, because it changes how you should approach the market.

Georgia recorded roughly $2 billion in direct production spend across about 280 productions in its 2026 fiscal year — down from $2.3 billion the year before, and less than half the $4.4 billion peak reached in 2022. It is the state's weakest year in about ten. In July 2026 the Georgia Film Office's own list showed around a dozen active productions, the lowest count since the pandemic, before recovering into the low twenties through the late summer.

And yet: Netflix, Prime Video, Hulu, Apple TV+, Paramount+, Peacock, Starz and HBO Max all shot in Georgia during 2026, several of them on long runs that extend into 2027. The work is there. There is just less slack in it, which means being registered with the right casting companies and submitting consistently matters more than it did when productions were struggling to fill calls.

This guide covers which streaming productions have been shooting in Atlanta and Georgia, which casting companies actually book them, what the work pays, where the studios are, and the state rules that affect you as a performer.

Why Georgia slowed down, and whether it matters to you

The causes are structural rather than local, which is the useful thing to understand:

  • California expanded its film tax credit to $750 million a year through 2030, pulling production back to Los Angeles.
  • New Jersey and New York enhanced their incentives, and New York in particular has been winning episodic work.
  • Marvel moved its tentpoles to the UK. The last Marvel feature shot in Georgia was in 2025.
  • Studios greenlit less overall and cut budgets on what they did greenlight, a continuing correction after the 2023 strikes.

Georgia's own incentive did not weaken. It remains a 20% transferable tax credit with a 10% uplift for carrying the Georgia logo — up to 30% — with no annual cap and no sunset date, a $500,000 minimum spend, and a mandatory audit. A 2025 change to the law extended qualifying distribution to cover streaming services and free ad-supported channels, and state officials credited that change with lifting activity in short-form and digital work.

For a performer, a slower market mostly changes the arithmetic of competition, not the method. Fewer productions means more applicants per call, which means your profile being complete, current and correctly tagged matters more than it used to.

Which streaming shows have been casting in Atlanta?

How to read this list. Shoot windows are given so you can tell for yourself what has passed and what is still running. Georgia's official production list is voluntary and incomplete, and productions frequently shoot under working titles, so no list anywhere — including this one — is complete. Always confirm against a live casting notice before planning around a title.

Netflix

  • Scooby-Doo: Origins — shot at Cinespace in Atlanta from April to September 2026. Background cast by Hylton Casting.
  • Free Bert season two — Atlanta, summer 2026. Background by On Location Casting.
  • The A Different World sequel series — shot in Atlanta from February to late April 2026, with background cast by Central Casting Georgia. Premiered in September 2026.
  • All the Sinners Bleed — Atlanta, November 2025 to May 2026.
  • Where There's Smoke — Tyler Perry's sixteen-episode firefighter drama, shooting in Atlanta.
  • Beauty in Black — Tyler Perry's series, shot in Atlanta and Chicago.

Prime Video

  • The Challenger — the Amblin series with Kristen Stewart, shooting at Assembly Studios in Doraville from August 2026 into early 2027. This is one of the longest runs in the market right now. Background cast by Casting TaylorMade, posting at around $182 for 12 hours.

Hulu and Disney

  • Chad Powers season two — late 2025 into early 2026.
  • Reasonable Doubt season four — wrapped late summer 2026.
  • A Southern Bastards pilot — spring 2026.
  • The Circle — the competition format, which moved platforms, shot in Georgia in mid-2026.

Apple TV+

  • Guilty Creatures — shooting at Eagle Rock Studios in Stone Mountain from late September 2026 into February 2027.

Paramount+, Peacock, Starz and HBO Max

  • Tulsa King season four (Paramount+) — wrapped in spring 2026.
  • The Ms. Pat Show season six (Paramount+) — wrapped late summer 2026.
  • Tyler Perry's BET and Paramount+ series — Sistas, Zatima and others shooting continuously at Tyler Perry Studios.
  • An untitled Starz series — shooting at Lionsgate's Douglasville studio from August to November 2026.
  • Peacock — unscripted and film work through 2026.
  • HBO Max — a DC-universe series began shooting in Georgia in mid-2026.

Alongside the streaming slate, Georgia hosted large theatrical productions in 2026 including a DC feature at Trilith, which matters because tentpole features hire background in volume.

Who actually casts Atlanta productions?

This is the practical centre of the page. Productions do not cast background themselves, and different productions use different companies — which is why registering with only one is the most common mistake new Atlanta performers make.

Background casting companies working Georgia in 2026

  • Central Casting Georgia — the Atlanta office of the largest background casting company in the country.
  • Hylton Casting — booked Netflix's Scooby-Doo: Origins.
  • Casting TaylorMade — booking Prime Video's The Challenger.
  • Rose Locke Casting — Georgia and Savannah, including Trilith productions.
  • On Location Casting — booked Netflix's Free Bert.
  • CAB Castings — the company on recent Tyler Perry Studios extras calls.

Registering with any legitimate background casting company is always free. Register with all of them, keep your photos current with each, and respond fast when a booking comes in.

Principal casting directors in the market

For speaking roles, Atlanta has a small, established group of casting offices. Feldstein Paris Casting — Tara Feldstein and Chase Paris — is the best-known Atlanta location casting team and has worked on streaming limited series shot in Georgia. George Pierre Casting casts Atlanta series work. Rhavynn Drummer casts Tyler Perry's productions.

Speaking roles generally go out as breakdowns to agents, which is why Atlanta representation is worth more here than in a market with less production.

Where the studios are

Knowing which studio a production is based at tells you roughly where you will be reporting at 6am, which matters more than people expect when call times are pre-dawn and parking is at a basecamp.

  • Trilith Studios, Fayetteville — the largest purpose-built campus in the market, hosting major features through 2026.
  • Tyler Perry Studios, southwest Atlanta — 330 acres and twelve soundstages, producing continuously, and now also hosting outside formats.
  • Assembly Studios, Doraville — home to The Challenger into 2027.
  • Cinespace, Atlanta — hosted Scooby-Doo: Origins.
  • Eagle Rock Studios, Stone Mountain and Norcross — hosting Guilty Creatures.
  • Lionsgate's Douglasville studio — hosting the Starz series.
  • Raleigh Studios, Senoia — active in 2026.
  • Shadowbox Studios, Union City — markedly underbooked in 2026 and in a public dispute with DeKalb County over an expansion site.

Two studios are worth watching rather than counting on: Shadowbox reported only one of nine stages booked on a day in spring 2026, and the owner of Athena Studios in Athens has been exploring converting the site to a data center. Stage capacity in Georgia currently exceeds demand, which is itself the clearest measure of the slowdown.

What does Atlanta streaming work pay?

Union scale, effective 1 July 2026

  1. Background actor — $231 per 8 hours.
  2. Special ability background — $241 per 8 hours.
  3. Stand-in — $270 per 8 hours.
  4. Day performer — $1,283 per day.
  5. Weekly performer — $4,456 per week.

Union days also carry time-and-a-half for hours nine and ten, double time beyond, meal penalties, and adjustments for wardrobe, period costume, extensive hair and makeup, bringing your own vehicle and working in wet or smoke conditions. Those bumps regularly add fifty to a hundred dollars that most performers never claim.

Non-union rates actually posted in Atlanta

  • Around $182 for 12 hours — Prime Video's The Challenger, via Casting TaylorMade.
  • Around $100 for 8 hours, with featured days near $200 for 12 — recent Tyler Perry Studios calls via CAB Castings.
  • Payment typically arrives by check two to four weeks after the shoot day, from a payroll company rather than the production.

Georgia has no effective state minimum wage above the federal $7.25, which is why the gap between union and non-union background matters so much more here than in California or New York. It is also why union eligibility is the single highest-value thing an Atlanta background performer can work toward.

Two Georgia rules that affect you directly

Georgia is a right-to-work state

You can work on a union production in Georgia without being required to join SAG-AFTRA. That is why so much Atlanta background work is posted non-union, and why non-union performers routinely end up on union sets once the covered background slots are filled.

The flip side is worth knowing: three days of background work under a SAG-AFTRA agreement makes you union-eligible, evidenced by pay stubs rather than by the vouchers themselves. Track which of your days are union-covered. SAG-AFTRA's Atlanta local can confirm whether a production is a signatory.

Minors must be registered before they work

Georgia requires every performer under 18 to be registered through the state Department of Labor before working, and the employer or casting company must be registered as well. Productions must have a certified child labor coordinator on set, and performance hours are capped by schedule. Unlike California and New York, Georgia does not impose a Coogan-style blocked trust requirement — which means parents should set up their own arrangement for a child's earnings rather than assuming the state does it.

How to spot a fake Atlanta casting call

Registering with a legitimate background casting company is always free, and you never pay to audition or be considered for a role. Casting companies are paid by productions, not by performers.

Atlanta's size makes it a persistent target. The Federal Trade Commission published a consumer alert on virtual casting call scams in December 2025, and the Casting Society has warned specifically about impostors posing as casting directors on social media and charging for auditions.

  • Any fee — registration, "processing", mandatory headshot packages, classes bundled with a promised audition, or a specific photographer you must use.
  • Unexpected texts or DMs naming a real Atlanta production. Legitimate casting does not cold-text strangers.
  • Relisted old notices. Endemic in this market. Aggregator sites republish Georgia casting calls from previous years with no date. Check the shoot dates written inside the notice.
  • Recurring charges dressed up as membership in a "talent group".
  • Requests for bank details or a Social Security number before a signed booking with a named production and payroll company. Real I-9 and tax paperwork happens at registration or set check-in through the casting company's own system — never over text.
  • Guaranteed bookings or guaranteed representation. Neither can be promised.

Before engaging, search the company name alongside "scam" or "complaint", and check whether the role appears on an established casting platform where listings expire. Report suspected scams at ReportFraud.ftc.gov, forward scam texts to 7726, and contact SAG-AFTRA if the union's name is invoked.

How To

Register With Every Casting Company, Not Just One

This is the single most common mistake new Atlanta performers make, and it costs them most of the market. Different productions hire different background casting companies — Netflix’s Scooby-Doo: Origins went through Hylton Casting, Free Bert through On Location Casting, the A Different World sequel through Central Casting Georgia, Prime Video’s The Challenger through Casting TaylorMade, and Tyler Perry’s shows through CAB Castings. Registering with one puts you in front of a fraction of the work. Registering with all of them costs nothing, because legitimate background casting companies are paid by productions and never by performers.

  1. 1
Build One Honest, Current Profile and Repeat It Everywhere
Background casting is mechanical: you are selected on how you look, your measurements, and whether you are free on the day. So the profile is the whole job. Use a clear head-and-shoulders photo and a full-body photo, taken in natural light against a plain background, with no filters and your hair as it looks today. Add accurate height, weight and sizes, your playable age range, your real availability, and every skill you could actually demonstrate tomorrow — driving, riding, sports, instruments, languages, medical or military background.
Pro Tip: Update your photos the day your hair changes. Casting books you from a photo, and turning up looking different is the fastest way to stop being called.
  2. 2
Apply Consistently, and Check the Dates Inside Every Notice
Georgia’s market is tighter than it was, which means more applicants per call and less room for a scattershot approach. Filter Atlanta casting calls by category, read the full breakdown including shoot dates before you apply, and submit steadily rather than in bursts. Watch the dates especially carefully here: aggregator sites republish Georgia casting notices from previous years with no date attached, and planning around a call that closed in 2024 is a real and common waste of a week.
Pro Tip: Long-running productions are worth targeting hardest. A series shooting in one place for five or six months rebooks the same reliable background performers repeatedly, which is how a day of work turns into a season of it.
  3. 3
    Track Which Days Are Union-Covered
Georgia is a right-to-work state, so you can work union productions without joining SAG-AFTRA — which is exactly why so much Atlanta background is posted non-union at $100 to $182 a day while union scale is $231 per 8 hours. The way out of that gap is eligibility: three days of background work under a SAG-AFTRA agreement qualifies you, evidenced by pay stubs rather than by the vouchers. Keep your pay stubs, and ask the casting company whether a production is a signatory before you work it.
Pro Tip: Think the trade-off through before you join. Once you are a member, Global Rule One means you cannot work non-union productions anywhere — and in a market where most background is posted non-union, that is a real constraint as well as a raise.

Q&A

What streaming shows are filming in Atlanta right now?
Across 2026, Georgia hosted productions for Netflix including Scooby-Doo: Origins, Free Bert and the A Different World sequel; Prime Video’s The Challenger at Assembly Studios, which runs into 2027; Apple TV+’s Guilty Creatures at Eagle Rock Studios; Hulu titles including Reasonable Doubt and Chad Powers; Paramount+ series including Tulsa King and The Ms. Pat Show; a Starz series at Lionsgate’s Douglasville studio; and an HBO Max DC series. Georgia’s official production list is voluntary and incomplete, so always confirm against a live casting notice.
Is Atlanta still a good market for actors in 2026?
It is still one of the largest in the country, but it is in a genuine downturn. Georgia recorded roughly $2 billion in direct spend across about 280 productions in fiscal 2026 — down from $2.3 billion the year before and less than half the 2022 peak, as California, New Jersey and New York expanded their incentives and Marvel moved its tentpoles to the UK. There is still substantial work; there is just more competition for it.
Which casting companies book background work in Atlanta?
Companies confirmed booking Georgia productions in 2026 include Central Casting Georgia, Hylton Casting, Casting TaylorMade, Rose Locke Casting, On Location Casting and CAB Castings. Different productions use different companies, so register with all of them rather than one. Registration with a legitimate background casting company is always free.
How much do extras get paid in Atlanta?
Union scale is $231 per 8 hours as of 1 July 2026, with $241 for special ability and $270 for stand-ins, plus overtime and bumps. Non-union rates in Atlanta have been posting between roughly $100 for 8 hours on Tyler Perry productions and around $182 for 12 hours on Prime Video’s The Challenger. Payment usually arrives by check two to four weeks after the shoot day.
Do I need an agent to get background work in Atlanta?
No. Background and extras roles require no agent, no audition and no experience — you register with casting companies and are selected on appearance, measurements and availability. An agent becomes important for speaking roles, which go out as breakdowns to representation, and Atlanta representation is worth more here than in a market with less production.
What is Georgia’s film tax credit in 2026?
A 20% transferable tax credit with an additional 10% uplift for carrying the Georgia promotional logo, for up to 30%. There is no annual cap and no sunset date, the minimum qualifying spend is $500,000, and an audit is mandatory. A 2025 change extended qualifying distribution to cover streaming services and free ad-supported channels.
Does being in a right-to-work state affect acting work in Georgia?
Yes, directly. You can work on a union production in Georgia without joining SAG-AFTRA, which is why so much Atlanta background work is posted non-union and why non-union performers routinely end up on union sets once the covered background slots are filled. It also means tracking which of your days are union-covered is on you.
How do I become SAG-AFTRA eligible in Atlanta?
Three days of work as a background actor under a SAG-AFTRA collective bargaining agreement qualifies you, evidenced by pay stubs — the union does not accept the vouchers themselves as proof. Ask the casting company whether a production is a signatory before you work it, and keep every pay stub. Consider the trade-off first: once you join, Global Rule One prevents you working non-union productions anywhere.
Can children work on Atlanta productions?
Yes, but every performer under 18 must be registered through the Georgia Department of Labor before working, and the employer or casting company must be registered too. Productions must have a certified child labor coordinator on set and performance hours are capped by schedule. Georgia does not require a Coogan-style blocked trust account, so parents should arrange their own protection for a child’s earnings.
Which Atlanta studios are productions actually using?
Trilith in Fayetteville, Tyler Perry Studios in southwest Atlanta, Assembly Studios in Doraville, Cinespace in Atlanta, Eagle Rock in Stone Mountain, Lionsgate’s Douglasville studio and Raleigh Studios in Senoia were all active in 2026. Shadowbox Studios was markedly underbooked, and stage capacity in Georgia currently exceeds demand — which is itself the clearest measure of the slowdown.
Why do so many Atlanta casting calls online look out of date?
Because many of them are. Aggregator sites republish Georgia casting notices from previous years without dates or removal, and several widely shared “top Atlanta casting companies” lists are nearly a decade old. Always check the shoot dates written inside a notice, and prefer platforms where listings expire.
How do I avoid casting scams in Atlanta?
Registering with a legitimate background casting company is always free, and you never pay to audition. Treat as red flags any fee, bundled classes or headshot packages, a specific photographer you must use, recurring “talent group” charges, unexpected texts naming a real production, and any request for bank details or a Social Security number before a signed booking. Report scams at ReportFraud.ftc.gov and forward scam texts to 7726.
