Casting Calls in Georgia: Atlanta & Savannah Auditions 2026

  • Georgia's credit has no annual cap and no sunset. That is the structural reason production concentrates here: no project is ever turned away because the fund ran out.
  • 20% base plus a 10% uplift for carrying a Georgia promotional logo or an approved alternative marketing arrangement. Minimum spend $500,000 per tax year, and the credit is transferable.
  • Atlanta is the largest production market in the South, and background work is the realistic way in without credits.
  • Savannah casts separately and has far less competition per role.
  • Pay. Union background work pays $231 per 8 hours at SAG-AFTRA scale. Georgia's own minimum wage is $5.15, so the federal $7.25 is the effective floor for most non-union work.
  • Georgia is a right-to-work state, and it is not a child performer trust-account state.

Casting calls in Georgia exist in the volume they do because of one feature of the state's tax credit: it has no annual cap and no sunset clause. Most states run out of incentive money; Georgia does not. Union background work pays $231 per 8 hours in 2026, and Atlanta remains the largest production market in the South.

For a performer, that scale changes what is realistic. In a small market you wait for a production to arrive. In Atlanta the question is whether your profile is current and whether you can be on set at 5am tomorrow.

This guide covers Atlanta and Savannah auditions, how the credit actually works, what the work pays, the rules for child performers, and how to tell a real Georgia casting call from a fake one.

How Georgia's film tax credit actually works

The Georgia Entertainment Industry Investment Act pays a 20% base transferable tax credit on qualifying in-state spend, with a further 10% Georgia Entertainment Promotion uplift earned either by embedding a Georgia promotional logo in the finished project and linking to the state film office, or by completing a pre-approved alternative marketing arrangement of equal or greater value. Commercials do not qualify for the uplift.

  • Minimum spend: $500,000 per tax year, which may be met by a single project or aggregated across several projects from the same production company.
  • Distribution requirement: projects must be distributed to multiple markets outside Georgia.
  • No annual cap and no sunset. There is no limit on the total credits that can be earned in a year.
  • Transferable. Credits can offset Georgia income tax or withholding, or be sold to Georgia taxpayers.
  • Mandatory audit by the Georgia Department of Revenue or an approved CPA firm has applied since 1 January 2023, and audit costs do not count towards the credit.
  • From 1 January 2026, projects that missed a deadline or failed a statutory requirement may be able to correct the problem for a fee, and stand-alone credits for post-production companies have been restored.

Why this matters to a performer: an uncapped credit means production volume is limited by demand rather than by a state fund. That is the difference between a market where casting calls appear continuously and one where they arrive in bursts when money is released.

Atlanta: scale, and what to do with it

Atlanta's advantage for a performer starting out is simply the number of on-camera days available. Background work exists precisely to hire people without credits, and in a market this size you can accumulate experience far faster than almost anywhere else in the country.

The sensible progression is background, then stand-in and photo double work, which pays more and puts you beside the camera and the first assistant director, then speaking roles once you have a reel and representation. Atlanta rewards people who are reliable over people who are available: casting offices rebook the performers who answered quickly and arrived on time.

Savannah and the rest of the state

Savannah casts separately from Atlanta and attracts productions for its architecture and coastline rather than its stages. There is less work, but there are also far fewer performers chasing each role. If you live there, register for Savannah specifically rather than assuming Atlanta notices will reach you.

What does casting work in Georgia pay?

Union scale, effective 1 July 2026

On a SAG-AFTRA production, background work pays $231 for an 8-hour day, special ability background $241, and stand-ins and photo doubles $270. A day performer earns $1,283 and a weekly performer $4,456. Overtime, meal penalties, night premiums and wardrobe allowances are paid on top, and the production contributes 20.5% towards pension and health.

Georgia is a right-to-work state, so union membership can never be a condition of being hired. SAG-AFTRA's Atlanta Local services members working in Georgia and South Carolina.

Non-union rates

Non-union work is negotiated per job. Georgia's own statutory minimum wage is $5.15, but employers covered by the Fair Labor Standards Act must pay the federal minimum of $7.25, which is the effective floor for most work. In practice film and commercial day rates sit well above that, but the low floor is a reason to confirm your rate in writing before accepting a booking.

Child performers in Georgia

Georgia is not one of the four states that require a child performer trust account. SAG-AFTRA lists only California, New York, Louisiana and New Mexico.

General youth employment rules still apply and vary by age and schooling, so confirm what a production expects before your child is booked. Because state protection specific to performers is limited, ask in writing about working hours, schooling on set, who supervises your child between setups, and when and how payment is made. On a SAG-AFTRA production the union's young performer provisions apply regardless of state law.

How to spot a fake Atlanta casting call

Atlanta's size and its association with well-known productions make it the most impersonated casting market in the South. Studio and streamer names are borrowed constantly.

  1. You are asked to pay to audition, to be submitted, or to be registered for a named production.
  2. A paid role is offered before any audition, from a photograph and a message.
  3. Money arrives first and you are told to deposit it and forward part onward. This is fraud without exception.
  4. The audition is at a private address or hotel room rather than an office, studio or secure self-tape platform.
  5. A named photographer is required before you can be considered.

How To

Get Cast in Atlanta, the Busiest Production Market in the South

Atlanta casts constantly and casts fast, which means the bottleneck is rarely opportunity and almost always readiness. Casting directors shortlist from online profiles before anyone is called in, and background bookings can go out the day before a shoot. A complete, accurate, current profile is what puts you in the pool.

  1. 1
Keep your profile accurate enough to book from
Atlanta background casting sizes wardrobe and matches scenes straight from your profile, often without ever speaking to you. Keep your height, measurements, hair colour and current photo genuinely up to date, and add a plain full-length shot. A profile that is three years and two haircuts out of date gets you released on arrival.
  2. 2
Be ready to work on short notice
Volume is Atlanta's defining feature, and so is speed. Background calls frequently go out the day before, and the people who book repeatedly are the ones who answer immediately and arrive on time. State your real availability, including early call times and weekends, and treat a confirmed booking as fixed.
  3. 3
Use Atlanta to build credits, then widen
Atlanta's scale means you can accumulate on-camera days faster here than almost anywhere else in the country. Use that: get background days, then stand-in and photo double work, then speaking roles. Register for Savannah as well, which casts separately and has a different look and a different slate.

Q&A

Why does so much film in Georgia?
The tax credit, which is the most generous in the country in one specific respect: it has no annual cap and no sunset clause. Georgia pays a 20% base transferable credit on qualifying spend, with a further 10% available for including a Georgia promotional logo or completing an approved alternative marketing arrangement. The minimum spend is $500,000 per tax year and can be met across several projects from the same company. Because the credit is uncapped, no production is ever turned away for lack of funds, which is the thing most other states cannot match.
Is Atlanta still busy in 2026?
Atlanta remains the largest production market in the South and one of the largest in the country, and the uncapped credit continues to be its structural advantage. Volume across the industry has been uneven since 2023, so treat any claim of a guaranteed boom with caution, but the fundamentals that made Atlanta a hub — the credit, the stages, and a deep local crew base — are all still in place.
What does casting work in Georgia pay?
On a SAG-AFTRA production, background work pays $231 for an eight-hour day at the rates effective 1 July 2026, special ability $241, and stand-ins and photo doubles $270. A day performer earns $1,283. Non-union work is negotiated per job. Georgia's own minimum wage is $5.15, but employers covered by the Fair Labor Standards Act must pay the federal minimum of $7.25, which is the effective floor for most work.
Do I need to join SAG-AFTRA to work in Georgia?
No. Georgia is a right-to-work state, so union membership can never be a condition of being hired, including on a union production. SAG-AFTRA's Atlanta Local services members working in Georgia and South Carolina. Most performers here build credits on non-union and background work first and join once union bookings justify the cost.
Is Savannah worth registering for separately?
Yes. Savannah casts separately from Atlanta, has a distinct architectural and coastal look that attracts period and location-driven productions, and has far fewer performers competing for each role. If you can reach both, register for both; if you live in Savannah, do not assume Atlanta notices will cover you.
Does my child need a work permit to act in Georgia?
Georgia is not one of the four states that require a child performer trust account; SAG-AFTRA lists only California, New York, Louisiana and New Mexico. General youth employment rules still apply and vary with age and schooling, so confirm what a production expects before a booking. On a SAG-AFTRA production the union's young performer provisions apply regardless of state law, which is a substantive reason to favour union-signatory work for a child.
How do I get started in Atlanta with no credits?
Background work, and a lot of it. Atlanta's volume means on-camera days are more obtainable here than in almost any other market, and background is explicitly where productions hire people without credits. Build from there to stand-in and photo double work, which pays more and puts you closer to the camera, and treat every booking as a reference for the next one.
How do I avoid casting scams in Georgia?
Never pay to audition, to be submitted, or to be registered for a production. Be suspicious of a paid role offered before any audition, of money you are told to deposit and partly forward, of auditions at private addresses or hotel rooms, and of any requirement to use one named photographer. Atlanta's size and its association with major productions make it a favourite setting for fake casting notices, so verify any production independently.
