About the project: 
Based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animation film, Shrek The Musical is a Tony Award-winning fairy tale adventure, featuring all new songs from Jeanine Tesori (Thoroughly Modern Millie; Caroline, or Change) and a side splitting book by David Lindsay-Abaire. Shrek brings all the beloved characters you know from the film to life on stage and proves there's more to the story than meets the ears.
"Once upon a time, there was a little ogre named Shrek...." And thus begins the tale of an unlikely hero who finds himself on a life-changing journey alongside a wisecracking Donkey and a feisty princess who resists her rescue. Throw in a short-tempered bad guy, a cookie with an attitude and over a dozen other fairy tale misfits, and you've got the kind of mess that calls for a real hero. Luckily, there's one on hand... and his name is Shrek.

Audition Requirements:
General: Please arrive 15 minutes early to complete paperwork. 
Please bring a complete list of conflicts between July 24th and October 30th.
Please bring a resume and headshot if you have them. 
Vocal: Please prepare 32 bars, should be around 1:15–1:30 seconds (two minutes is maximum) of a musical theater song. Please bring sheet music in the correct key for the accompanist, who will be provided. No recorded tracks or a cappella auditions are allowed. Please NO Musical selections from Shrek the Musical. 
Dance: Please come prepared to move with appropriate shoes. 
There will be a short dance routine to learn.
You must be available for all performances. All roles are open to audition. 
All auditionees must bring sheet music with them and be prepared to sing 32 bars, but no more of a fully memorized musical theater song that showcases your vocal range. Please NO Musical selections from Shrek the Musical. An accompanist will be provided. A cappella singing, instrumentals on CD, Tape, iPod, smartphone, MP3 Player or digital recorder will not be allowed. Auditionees will be asked to learn a short dance/movement combination taught at the audition so wear comfortable clothing conducive to movement and if you are called back you will be asked to read from the script and sing selections from the show.

A talking donkey who joins Shrek on the run from Farquaad's guards. Quite the chatterbox, he is not deterred by Shrek's looks and practically forces himself into his good graces. Easily frightened and pushy, but also an optimistic with heart.

Donkey

The comically short, ruthless ruler of Duloc. He is in search of a princes to marry so that he can become king. Has an intensely unfair bias against fairytale creatures that stems from a resentment of his father. Self-absorbed, lonely, and cruel.

Lord Farquaad

A dragon that has been charged with guarding Princess Fiona in her isolated castle. She eventually falls in love with Donkey and attempts to keep him there forever. Imposing and flirtatious, but tired of her job as the glorified babysitter.

Dragon

A gingerbread man initially kidnapped by Lord Farquaad. His wit and resolution help him both avoid trouble and inspire the rest of the fairytale creatures. Gingy can be played as a puppet who is operated and voiced by the actress appearing as Russian accented ‘ballerina’ type, Sugar Plum Fairy or as an actress in a gingerbread cookie costume.

Gingy/Sugar Plum Fairy

The leader of the fairytale creatures. He is an animated puppet whose nose grows every time he lies. Plenty of sass with a penchant for lying.

Pinocchio

He doesn't need to be a scary, threatening big-bad-wolf type. At this point, he's a pretty tame wolf who is reduced to wearing Little Red Ridinghood's grandmother's dressing gown.

Pig 1, Pig 2, and Pig 3. The classic three little pigs with a German twist. It isn't necessary that they look identical; focus on finding a fun and dynamic trio.

The boy who never grew up, and he continues to act the part in this story. Cast a boy (or girl, if you want to give a nod to the traditional theater casting) who will have fun physicalizing the character.

Wicked Witch

Classic runt of the litter. She may be bitter about her unfortunate appearance, but she does find camaraderie among her fellow fairy tale outcasts. This is a fun comedic role for a performer.

Ugly Duckling

Mama Bear, Papa Bear, and Baby Bear. Great cameo roles, they make a complementary group.

The Three Bears

He is based on the character from Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll.

Mad Hatter

They are based on characters from the nursery rhyme of the same name. However, they were made popular in Lewis Carroll's famous sequel novel Through the Looking-Glass and What Alice Found There.

Tweedledee

Tweedledum

An egg. Sings a big riffin ‘Freak Flag’.

Humpty Dumpty

She mostly appears as a gag character, meant to be played for laughs. Primarily her voice helps define her only trait being mildly irritating. However she later sings in 'Freak Flag' as part of the ensemble. The elf reveals that she practices scientology.

Shoemaker's Elf

The childhood counterpart of Shrek. He may not have lines, but he is very important to the storytelling. Appears only in 'Big Bright Beautiful World'.

Young Shrek (aka Little Ogre)

The childhood counterpart of Fiona and should have a solid singing voice. Excellent singer, and actress able to sing harmony. Appears in 'Big Bright Beautiful World' and ‘I Know It’s Today'.

Young Fiona

The mother of Shrek and wife of Papa Ogre. Good roles for a dynamic duo that can kick off the show with a lot of energy and presence. Make sure to cast good singers. Appears only in 'Big Bright Beautiful World'.

Mama Ogre

The father of Shrek and the husband of Mama Ogre. Good roles for a dynamic duo that can kick off the show with a lot of energy and presence. Make sure to cast good singers. Appears only in 'Big Bright Beautiful World'.

This role is just right for an actor with some inherent strength and authority. He or she doesn't have to have a lot of stage experience; just be sure to cast somebody who has a big, booming voice and who isn't scared to put all the Fairy Tale Creatures in their place.

Captain of the Guards

The Dragon's background singers who all tried at some point to save Fiona from her tower but were held hostage by the Dragon. Cast performers who can sing well and have some soul just like the Dragon. Appears only in 'Forever'.

He rallies many rats with his enchanted flute. Appears only in 'Morning Person'.

Pied Piper

Fiona meets the bird when she goes out into the forest in the morning to sing. 
The bird whistles in response to Fiona, and they start singing together. Appears only in 'Morning Person'.

About the project: 
Based on P.L. Travers’ beloved book series of the same name, Mary Poppins became an immediate hit when it premiered as a movie musical in 1964. Forty years later, Cameron Macintosh conceived of an enchanting stage musical that combines elements of Disney’s film with material inspired by Travers’ books. 
In the musical, Bert, a jack-of-all-trades, invites us into the world of London, England in 1910 — and, specifically, into the dysfunctional home of the Banks family. Jane and Michael, the young Banks children, have sent yet another nanny packing, dismissing these children as hopelessly and irrevocably spoiled and misbehaved. With a father who works constantly and a mother who is always distracted, Jane and Michael have suffered without strong caretaking forces in their lives. Then the magical Mary Poppins flies in on the wind, bringing with her a combination of whimsy, magic, and disciplined common sense to the children’s lives. 
Together, they go on memorable and magical adventures — and also learn the importance of a tidy nursery and of taking the medicine they need (with a spoonful of sugar, of course.) Mary Poppins’ transformational influence does not stop with the children — eventually, she teaches the grown-ups, as well, to open up and realize that “anything can happen if you let it.”

Come with your favorite 16-32 bars of a song that can show off your range.
Dance auditions will take place.

All ranges of movement are welcome and encouraged to audition.
Will also read selections from the script.
Video submissions will be accepted: while directors encourage you to come to audition in person, you can submit a taped audition with your favorite 16-32 bars of a song that can show off your range.

The narrator of the story. He is a good friend to Mary Poppins. An everyman, Bert has many occupations, including hurdy-gurdy player, sidewalk artist, and chimney sweep. Bert watches over the children as well as the goings on in Cherry Tree Lane. He has charm, speaks with a Cockney accent, and is a song-and-dance man.

The father to Jane and Michael Banks, is a banker to the very fiber of his being. Demanding "precision and order" in his household, he is a pipe-and-slippers man who does not have much to do with his children and believes that he had the perfect upbringing by his nanny, the cruel Miss Andrew. His emotional armor, however, conceals a sensitive soul. A baritone, George may speak-sing as necessary.

George Banks

George's wife and Jane and Michael's mother. A former actress, she is loving and distracted homemaker who is busy trying to live up to her husband's desire to only associate with "the best people" as well as be the model wife and mother. She suffers from the conflicting feelings that she's not up to the job of "being Mrs. Banks," yet, she is, and more. She has great warmth and simplicity to her tone.

Winifred Banks

Jane and Michael's nanny at the beginning of the show. Overwhelmed and upset, she has absolutely had her fill of the Banks children.

Katie Nanna

A neighborhood fixture who is respected by and observant of households on his beat. In the park, he makes sure no one breaks park regulations. His life is defined by rules, but he secretly hankers after his childhood.

Policeman / Park Keeper

The haughty next-door neighbor of the Banks family who treats her dog, Willoughby, as if her were child.

Miss Lark

A retired Royal Navy man and neighbor of the Banks family. A physically large man with a loud and booming voice, he speaks in Navy jargon and has a soft spot for his neighbor, Miss Lark. Can be any vocal range as needed.

Admiral Boom

The housekeeper and cook for the Banks family. Overworked and harrassed, she's always complaining that the house is understaffed. Her intimidating exterior is a cover for the warmth underneath. Mrs. Brill doesn't have a high opinion of nannies in general and Mary Poppins in particular. She does not have to be a strong singer.

The houseboy to the Banks family. Lazy, sleepy and grumbling, he never gets things right and believes himself to be useless. He doesn't do a lot of singing, but his "Spoonful" solo can be a fun surprise.

Robertson Ay

Jane and Michael Banks's new nanny. She is extraordinary and strange, neat and tidy, delightfully vain yet particular, and sometimes a little frightening but always exciting. She is practically perfect in every way and always means what she says. A mezzo soprano with strong top notes, she should be able to move well. She can have a more traditional soprano sound, but precision and diction is the key.

Covered in a patchwork of old shawls, and her pockets are stuffed with bags of crumbs for the birds. She tries to sell her crumbs for the birds. She tries to sell her crumbs to passersby, who ignore her as if she doesn't exist. Sings "Feed the Birds." There can be a gruff, folksy quality to her voice that relfelcts the hardness of her life.

Owns a magical gingerbread shop. She is a mysterious woman of great age who speaks with a Caribbean accent (or any accent that would make her seem exotic).

George's overbearing and scary nanny. With her bottle of nasty-tasting brimstone and treacle to keep naughty children in line, she is a bully who only knows one way of doing things - her way. A soprano with an alto belt, there can be some heaviness to her voice along with range.

Set in turn-of-the century New York City, Newsies is the rousing tale of Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy and leader of a band of teenaged "newsies."
