Dancers Wanted for "Newsies" Show
Performers wanted for the "Newsies" play. Please see more details below. ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE CONSIDERED. Additional info: Auditions will consist of a vocal audition, brief reading, and dance call. Please prepare 32 bars (about 1 minute) of music and bring sheet music for the accompanist. For the reading, please prepare one of the audition monologues linked below; memorization is invited but not required. Dance call will consist of learning and performing choreography. Performers will be invited to show off special dance skills (flips, cartwheels, etc.) if they choose. Please bring tap shoes if you have them for an optional tap combo at the end of the dance call. Auditions for Les will occur Monday from 6:30-7:30. Callbacks September 24; Rehearsals: October 13-December 4, 2025; Performances: December 5-21, 2025. See the form attached. Male Presenting Vocal Range: Tenor The charismatic leader of the Manhattan newsboys. Jack dreams of a better life away from the hardships of the streets, especially in Santa Fe. He’s passionate, idealistic, quick-witted, and has a strong sense of justice. Jack becomes the voice of the Newsies' strike.
Female Presenting Vocal Range: Mezzo-Soprano A smart, confident young reporter who’s eager to make a name for herself in a male-dominated profession. She’s sharp, determined, and a bit sarcastic. Katherine becomes an ally and love interest for Jack Kelly
Vocal Range: Tenor Jack’s loyal and optimistic best friend who uses a crutch due to a bad leg. Crutchie is cheerful, kind-hearted, and deeply supportive of the Newsies’ cause. His arrest becomes a rallying point for the strike. As Crutchie is a person living with a disability, we will first seek to cast an artist with similar lived experience.
Male Presenting Vocal Range: Tenor New to selling papers, Davey joins the Newsies with his younger brother Les. He’s intelligent, responsible, and more cautious than Jack, but becomes a strong supporter of the strike and Jack’s second-in-command.
Male Presenting Vocal Range: Baritone The powerful publisher of the New York World. Pulitzer is shrewd, calculating, and focused on profits. He serves as the main antagonist, raising newspaper prices and pushing back hard against the strike.
Female Presenting Vocal Range: Alto/Mezzo A singer and vaudeville performer who owns the Bowery theatre. She’s warm, maternal, and supportive of Jack and the Newsies, often offering them refuge and moral support.
Male Presenting Vocal Range: Tenor Fast-talking, street-smart, always has a cigar in hand. Comic relief.

Supporting Role Runs distribution for the World, gruff and unpleasant.
