Actors wanted for "Mama Shakes Her Moneymaker" short yet outrageous comic play coming to downtown Manhattan theater festival. ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE CONSIDERED. See more info below. About the project: Synopsis- When the ashes of Benny's late mama start bouncing around in their funeral urn, Benny naturally tries to make a quick buck off it and calls out the window from his basement apartment for passersby to come witness the miraculous event. A talking dolphin with a necklace of plastic garbage shows up with more of mama's ashes. Dolphin believes it is Judgment Day for humanity, the polluters of the oceans, and so all mama's ashes must be in one place for her to return to her human form. Benny agrees to mix the ashes, and mama indeed magically returns to her human form. This staggering, distracted, reincarnated mama confuses Benny with Benny's late father Seymour, who, like the rotten jerk he always was, flushed his half of mama's ashes down the toilet, which led to the dolphin finding them in the sea. While the dolphin aspires to recruit mama in ushering in a new age of peace, love and renewal for planet Earth, Benny wants to make a fast buck off his reincarnated mama shaking her moneymaker. Mama is okay with shaking her moneymaker, but the dolphin maintains that Judgment Day obligates them to aspire to be better than such an insult to Mama. The dolphin tries to come between Benny and his mama, and Benny strangles the dolphin to death. Mama and Benny usher in a new world, as they create a new market, calling out to passersby to watch reincarnated mama shake her miraculous moneymaker. Rate: $300.00 per gig. Working-class guy living in a city basement apartment. Always behind the 8-ball, he's always looking for a way to make a fast buck. He's a territorial dude when push comes to shove. Underneath all the toughness, Benny just loves his Mama, and he needs money, so he tells his magically reincarnated Mama to shake her magical moneymaker for passersby on the street.
Mama is reincarnated from her ashes that her son Benny had. She is still half in the world of the dead and is also liberated of the social taboos of this world, so Mama has no problem shaking her moneymaker out the window for street passersby. She is confused about where she is, and how she got there, and who everybody else is. But she still likes shaking her moneymaker like when she was alive and young.
Dolphin is often the voice of the moral high ground and wants to take this opportunity to judge humanity for polluting the planet's oceans. Dolphin feels so inspired by morals that it tries to stop Benny from making money having his Mama shake her moneymaker. Dolphin is also a shrill sanctimonious voice for outrage at the growing environmental disaster. Spoiler: Dolphin is strangled to death in this dark comedy’s climax.
