7 roles

HETCHMANMale40-60 y.o.All ethnicities

Our hero. Hetchman the hatmaker. He wears a hat. Curmudgeonly.

HETCHMAN'S WIFEFemale40-60 y.o.All ethnicities

Wife of Hetchman. Nondescript. Does she have a name? Who knows.

MECKELMale40-60 y.o.All ethnicities

Hetchman's neighbor and only friend. Meckel is cheerful, popular, and kind. He is the opposite of Hetchman. He also wears a hat

VOICEFemale20-39 y.o.All ethnicities

An intense young woman.

GABEMale20-39 y.o.All ethnicities

Voice's boyfriend. Easygoing in a way Voice has never been.

WALLMale18-56 y.o.All ethnicities

A wall, probably female, that speaks with a quasi-Eastern European accent. Wall is traditionally cast to be an off-stage voice, but directors would like our Wall to appear on stage. Strong vocal skills and physicality are a must.

GOLEMMale18-56 y.o.All ethnicities

A golem is a monster in Jewish folklore. In this play, it only makes sounds but does intuit what is going on. Actors interested in this part should have experience in athletics or dance, and, if possible, puppetry since this is a life-size puppet (think Big Bird) and be able to move easily in a bulky costume that weighs a few pounds. Auditions for this character will be on Saturday, July 13 because it requires a very different set of skills to be evaluated than a speaking role does.
