About the project: Family Music Theatre, a community theatre proudly residing in Southern Dallas, announces open auditions for ANASTASIA. From the Tony Award-winning creators of the Broadway classic Ragtime, comes this dazzling musical based on the beloved 1997 animated movie. From the twilight of the Russian Empire to the euphoria of Paris in the 1920s, a brave young woman sets out to discover the mystery of her past. Pursued by a ruthless Soviet officer determined to silence her, Anya enlists the aid of a dashing conman and a lovable ex-aristocrat to find out if she is indeed Princess Anastasia. Including classic songs from the motion picture like “Journey to the Past” and “Once Upon a December”, this show is perfect for the whole family! Additional info: Callbacks: Jan 4, 12:00 pm First Cast Meeting: Friday, Jan 10, 7:00 pm First Rehearsal: Monday, Jan 13, 7:00 pm Rehearsals will run Jan. 13-Feb 20 on weeknights and some Saturdays. A definitive rehearsal calendar, determined from the availabilities of those cast, will be set and shared just prior to first cast meeting. Every attempt is made to set a rehearsal calendar that is personnel-efficient prior to Feb 10 Sequence Week, requiring attendance only when you are active onstage. Rehearsal times and required attendance dates will vary by character and ensemble group. Any conflicts must be specified on the audition sign-up form. Set, props, & costume workdays will be on Saturdays. Starting Feb 10: Required attendance for all. No individual conflicts will be accepted. Lead G3 - F5 (high belt to D5) some movement Soprano with great belt. When we first meet Anya, she is a lost soul but with great dignity, bravery, fiery wit, strong-will, and compassion. All she knows is her family is in Paris and she will find them however she can. Discovers her sense of self and the possibility that she might be the missing daughter of Tsar Nicholas. "Once Upon a December", "Journey to the Past", "In My Dreams", etc
Supporting, F3-Bb4 70s-80s none The formidable and imperious grandmother of Anastasia. Anastasia is her favorite grandchild and she loves her with all her heart. She never truly gives up the belief that her granddaughter might be alive, but finally after years of enduring Anastasia pretenders she becomes hardened and bitter. It is only when she meets Anya that her old spirit begins to return.
Supporting G3-C5, ideally a strong dancer Mostly sings in a jazzy, mezzo range but with an upper extension (briefly sings a B5 at the end of Land of Yesterday). Lily is the lady in waiting to the Dowager Empress. She has been by the Dowager's side since before the reviolution. Lily is clever dutiful, and above all fun (when not working for the Dowager).
Lead A2-A4, some move-ment Dmitry is a scoundrel with a heart of gold, a street rat who grew into a conman. As an opportunist trying to make it on the streets of Russia by selling stolen objects from the Tsarist past, he is the prince of St. Petersburg's black market. He creates the scheme to find an Anastasia impersonator in order to gain the reward for her safe return.
Lead A2-F4, strong mover Vlad is Dimitry's partner in crime (literally) and surrogate father. Before the revolution he scammed his way through society pretending to be a count. Vlad is dramatic, crafty, and a big softy at heart. While he, like Dmitry, is not above lying, cheating , and stealing, he cares greatly for his loved ones and is generally affable, though he can be calculating when he needs to be. Actor must have wit, style, and be a comedic character with panache.
Lead A2-Gb4, none Gleb is the villain of the show, though not a bad person. A career officer in the Bolshevik secredt police, he fully believes in and defends the Communist ideals he follows. Loyal, honest, and hard working. Gleb almost has the potential to be a hero (and he’s very much the hero of his own story). A deeply conflicted person, Gleb’s infatuation (and borderline obsession) with Anya leads to his battle with the idea of doing one’s duty vs. doing what is right.
Cameo A2-Eb4, none Russian aristocrat and a recognized, respected intellectual; killed while attempting to escape the country; recognizes Anastasia at train station. Leads passengers in a farewell prayer to Russia.

A loving father; as his youngest daughter Anastasia grows into a young woman, he protects and guides her. Tries to keep the peace between his mother, the Dowager Empress, and the Tsarina. Elegant and polished.
Cameo not required, some movement Anastasia's mother, Empress of Russia. Very devout, brittle, paranoid about the collapsing regme and grief-stricken about the poor health of her son, the Tsarevich. Uncomfortable around her mother-in-law, the Dowager Empress. A stern mother.
