About the play: RED follows Mark Rothko at the height of his career and his youthful new assistant, Ken. Set in 1950s New York, and based on a series of real events, we witness Rothko struggling through the creation of a series of large paintings intended for New York’s brand-new Four Seasons Restaurant. As Ken and Rothko paint, they challenge each other to ask big questions about art, life and what it means to be human. Additional information: Seeking submissions from male presenting actors to play the role of Mark Rothko. Equity and Non-Equity actors are invited to submit. Selected applicants will be asked to prepare a 1-3 min dramatic monologue or one of the sides provided. Rehearsals: February-March, Exact dates TBD. Performances: March 27th to April 5th, 2025. Location: Toronto, ON. Deadline for submissions: December 29th at 11:00 PM. When applying, please submit a head shot, resume, and a short letter of interest describing your artistic practice. This letter can be in written or audio format; whichever you find most accessible. Please indicate in the letter any scheduling conflicts with the dates proposed here.
