About the project: Synopsis: "I Never Saw Another Butterfly" is a play based on the true stories of children imprisoned in the Terezin concentration camp during the Holocaust, focusing on the perspective of a young girl named Raja who narrates her experiences, highlighting how the children used art and imagination, particularly the symbol of a butterfly, to maintain hope and a sense of normalcy amidst the horrific conditions of the camp, even though they never saw a real butterfly within the barbed wire fences; the play explores themes of resilience, creativity, and the power of childhood innocence in the face of unimaginable tragedy. The narrator of the story, a young Jewish woman from Prague, who returns to Prague after being forced into the ghetto at Terezin. She is one of very few survivors from this camp.
Raja's father, a former teacher who is forced out of his job and into manual labor before being transported to the ghetto at Terezin and later to Auschwitz.
Raja's mother, who does her best to protect her children and who values survival over all else.
Raja's aunt, up to date on the current political happenings.
