Casting Call for "A Streetcar Named Desire" Stage Play
Theatre will be holding auditions for their upcoming production of "A Streetcar Named Desire". Seeking actors. ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE CONSIDERED. See the details below. About the project: The play reveals to the very depths the character of Blanche DuBois, a woman whose life has been undermined by her romantic illusions, which lead her to reject—so far as possible—the realities of life with which she is faced and which she consistently ignores. The pressure brought to bear upon her by her sister, with whom she goes to live in New Orleans, intensified by the earthy and extremely “normal” young husband of the latter, leads to a revelation of her tragic self-delusion and, in the end, to madness. Additional info: Adult auditions will consist of a dramatic monologue. Please prepare a monologue not to exceed two (2) minutes (ideally, 90 seconds). Also, please bring a copy of your acting resume (or list of performance experience) and a headshot (or recent photo). Callbacks, will be held Monday, December 16th, 6:00 pm – 9:30 pm. CALL BACKS ARE BY INVITATION ONLY. Rehearsals will begin Sunday, January 12 at 6:00 pm. Rehearsal Schedule will be determined by the availability of the actors who are cast, however, typically, rehearsals run Sunday to Thursday from 6:30 pm – 9:30 pm, with occasional rehearsals from 6:15 – 9:45 pm. Tech Week runs from March 1– 6, 2025 with Performances from March 7 – 23, 2025. Performances run Friday and Saturday at 7:30 pm and Sunday at 2 pm. They have a Saturday Matinee on March 15th at 2:00 PM (**This will be a two-show day**) and one Thursday evening performance on March 20, 2025 at 7:30 pm. If you are interested, please apply.

Blanche is a fragile and complex character, marked by her fading beauty and troubled past. She arrives in New Orleans seeking refuge with her sister Stella after experiencing a series of personal tragedies, including the loss of her family home and the death of her young husband. Her attempts to maintain an air of sophistication and delicacy often clash with her reality, leading to her gradual mental decline.
Stella is Blanche’s younger sister, who has built a life with her husband, Stanley. She is strong and practical, embodying the raw vitality of New Orleans. Stella is caught between her loyalty to Blanche and her passionate relationship with Stanley. Her love for Stanley often leads her to defend him, even when his behavior is abusive.
Stanley is a brutish and primal character, representing the harsh realities of life in New Orleans. He is direct, assertive, and unapologetic about his desires and instincts. His clashes with Blanche are intense, as he embodies the new, modern world that conflicts with Blanche’s old-fashioned ideals. Stanley’s actions are pivotal in Blanche’s unraveling.
Mitch is Stanley’s friend and initially a potential romantic interest for Blanche. He is kind-hearted and gentle, contrasting with Stanley’s roughness. Mitch becomes an important figure for Blanche, representing hope and stability, but ultimately his disillusionment with her past leads to a painful confrontation.
Eunice is Stella’s friend and neighbor, providing comic relief and insight into the lives of those in the lower-class New Orleans community. She has a tumultuous marriage with Steve, highlighting the complexity of relationships.
Stanley’s poker buddy and bowling friend. He lives upstairs with his wife, Eunice. He is brash, hot-tempered, and somewhat comic. He and Eunice constantly fight and make up.
