The Sack Master: The Soldier & Death
“Inspired by the Russian folktale, “The Soldier & Death.” This play portrays the life and love of a kindly old soldier, who gains a sack with magic powers and a potion that can bring anyone back from the dead. He uses the sack for good, but quickly finds out that along with the good, comes heartache and evil.” Rated PG for dark themes and subtle adult themes. Show Run Time: 2 hours and 30 minutes with a 15 minute intermission. Performances: February 21st and 22nd, OR February 28th and March 1st. Rehearsal Schedule: January & February. A poor soldier down on luck. No money, can’t afford food and barely a house. Later he is gifted two magical items from a poor old beggar man. He is first gifted a perfect hand of cards that is always guaranteed to win, and a sack that can catch anything. He uses the sack to catch a group of evils, who, in return for their life, give him a potion that can save people from dying. He then uses the sack to catch death, which was his worst mistake yet. Dou Guild's wife. She thinks that her husband is foolish and should quit acting like a child. She is a strong woman who would do anything for her family. She is also very bossy, stern, loving, kind, and can be easily provoked! Role Size: Lead, Vocal Range: Soprano or Mezzo-Soprano.
Gilda's father who is saved from death. Role Size: Supporting, Vocal Range: Baritone
The spooky figure who can be seen in nightmares and life. Does not speak or sing. Role Size: Supporting.
