About the project: Synopsis: Haunted by the horrors of World War I, gifted painter John Amory seeks a tranquil life after returning stateside. His new benefactor, Florence Doyle, has offered him a small studio to live and work on the grounds of her husband Quinton's estate. The Doyle's debutante daughter, Lilly, fascinated by the artist, eventually becomes his muse and lover - which ignites the wrath of her father. A soft-natured and talented young painter. A veteran of WWI with "shell shock," John seeks to heal at the Doyle's estate by painting. Lilly Doyle becomes his muse and eventual lover. Sides - Scenes 3, 7, 10, 17, 20, 23, 33, 37, 40, 42, 44.
The only daughter of the Doyles. Lilly wants to be a professional dancer in the city. Her parents are pressuring her to marry Aurther Morgan, the son of an affluent family. She is the muse and eventual lover of John Avery. Sides - Scenes 5, 6, 9, 10, 18, 20, 33, 34, 37, 42, 44, 46.
Lilly's best friend. Dot's mother has left her alcoholic father and ran away, leaving Dot unable to find a suitor. She is lonely, bored, and considered a bad influence on Lilly. Sides - Scenes 3, 17, 22, 27, 28, 34, 36, 38, 45.
An Irish immigrant housekeeper and largely the mother figure of Lilly. Widowed from the war, she loves the Doyle family and sees them as her own. She is fiercely protective of Lilly. Sides - Scenes 4, 6, 9, 17, 41, 43.
Lilly's overbearing father who is intent on finding a suitor fit for Lilly to marry that will financially benefit the family. He drinks too much and keeps a mistress in the city. He is prone to angry (and sometimes aggressive) outbursts. Sides - Scenes 5, 7, 10, 18, 33, 37, 42, 45.
Lilly's passive mother whose ambition is to climb the social ladder as a patron of the arts. She endures her husband's drinking and womanizing for her own benefit. Sides - Scenes 3, 5, 13, 15, 31, 36, 42.
George appears only in flashbacks from the war. He was John's best friend who was killed in the Battle of Marne. Sides - Scene 24.
Aurther is from a wealthy family and has returned home from college in the East. He feels entitled to Lilly. Sides - Scenes 15, 16, 36.
Father of Aurther and husband of Eveyln. Walter is a serious, business-minded man. He is a close friend and associate of Quinton. Walter wants the marriage of Aurther and Lilly at any cost. Sides - Scenes 3, 11, 36.
Mother of Aurther and wife of Walter. Evelyn wants the marriage of Aurther and Lilly for the improved social standing. Sides - Scenes 3, 36.
Lilly's strict French (with an accent) ballet teacher. Sides - Scene 18.
A young maid, newly employed by the family. She is eager to please and a bit naïve. Sides - Scene 46.
