Auditions for "Blues for an Alabama Sky" show. In need of cast. ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE CONSIDERED. Please see the breakdown below. About the project: Synopsis: It is the summer of 1930 in Harlem, New York. The creative euphoria of the Harlem Renaissance has given way to the harsher realities of the Great Depression. Black Nationalist visionary Marcus Garvey has been discredited and deported. Birth control pioneer Margaret Sanger is opening a new family planning clinic on 126th Street, and the doctors at Harlem Hospital are scrambling to care for a population whose most deadly disease is poverty. The Play brings together a rich cast of characters who reflect the conflicting currents of the time through their overlapping personalities and politics. Rate: Stipend for actors is $500 for the run, with the potential of a bonus of up to $100 if the show runs a profit. Additional info: Initial auditions are cold readings from the script that will be provided at the audition. Those auditioning for Angel will also need to prepare a song of your choice. Plan to sing 16 to 32 bars acapella—no music accompaniment will be provided. Call Backs Sunday November 10th 3 pm to 6 pm. A gay man. He is a popular costume designer at the Cotton Club who is vying to move to Paris to be Josephine Baker’s personal designer. In the meantime, he continues to support his best friend Angel and himself by taking on as many costume designing gigs within the entertainment community.

A forty-year-old, hard-working, no non-sense, jazz-loving doctor at Harlem Hospital. He becomes a love interest to Delia.

A twenty-eight-year-old man who is a recent transplant from Tuskegee, Alabama. He falls in love with Angel whom he sees as the memory of his lost love and a reminder of those “Alabama skies where the stars are so thick it’s bright as day.”
