About the project: The Big White Lie is the story of a family gathering for the funeral of their beloved patriarch they call Pop Pop. As his wife Frannie, their adult kids James and Emily, and the grandkids share happy memories, a mysterious woman arrives and a family secret is revealed. It turns out Pop Pop and Frannie have been telling a lie for years. After the funeral raises even more questions, and chaos rises, Frannie finally confesses the truth and everyone is left to deal with the fallout. It’s a fast-paced comedy that reminds everyone what being a family really means. Additional info: Tech Week: September 30 – October 3. Elizabeth White (“Libbie”), college age / female (108 lines) Daughter of James and Julie, granddaughter of Pop Pop and Frannie, sister of Nic, Ben’s girlfriend. Libbie is a music major, she greatly looks up to Frannie, and wants to be there for her family any way she can. She wears her heart on her sleeve.
(103 lines) Pop Pop and Frannie’s son, Emily’s twin brother, married to Julia, father of Libbie and Nic. James is a bit of a goofball. He’s a fun-loving prankster like his father. He’s much easier going than his twin sister, Emily.
Frances White (“Frannie”), (101 lines) The matriarch of the family, Frannie is always kind, gentle, and extremely dedicated to her family. She is the glue that holds the family together.
Aunt Melba, (96 lines) Frannie’s older sister, she is fiercely protective of Frannie, opinionated, bossy, and blunt.
Ben Owens, college age / male (93 lines) Libbie’s boyfriend, also a music major, has good manners, is normally easy going, and is doing his best to support Libbie and fit into her family, who he is meeting for the first time.
Emily Hampton, (79 lines) Pop Pop and Frannie’s daughter, James’ twin sister, married to Brian, mother of Connor. The wife of a wealthy businessman, on the outside she can be all about appearances, but on the inside, she feels things deeply and can be emotional.
Julia White, (74 lines) Married to James, Pop Pop and Frannie’s daughter-in-law, mother of Libbie and Nic. Julia looks up to Frannie and was very close to Pop Pop, especially since her parents died when she was young. She loves being a part of this family.
Pastor Greg, (58 lines) A young inexperienced pastor, he’s meeting with the White family to plan Pop Pop’s funeral. He’s been around Nic at church, but doesn’t know the rest of the family very well.
Kathryn, (1 monologue) A mysterious woman who appears after Pop Pop’s death.
(2 lines; 1 song) A singing telegram singer.
