Audition for Singing in "The Addams Family" Play
ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE ACCEPTED. Calling all actors, singers, and dancers for upcoming production of "The Addams Family". More details are below. About the play: In this magnificently macabre musical comedy, the quirky and mysterious Addams family comes to life on stage like never before. The story follows the delightfully dark and ghoulish clan as they navigate a night of surprises and secrets. When Wednesday Addams, the ultimate princess of darkness, falls in love with a sweet, smart young man from a respectable family, chaos ensues. As Wednesday confides in her father, Gomez Addams, he faces an impossible task—keeping the secret from his beloved wife, Morticia. With the entire Addams family hosting a dinner for Wednesday’s “normal” boyfriend and his parents, the evening turns into a hilarious and heartwarming adventure filled with unexpected twists, turns, and plenty of laughs. Additional information: Rehearsals for the show will start in August. There will be one 3-4 hour weekend rehearsal on Saturday and 1-2 weeknight rehearsals on Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday evening (depending on the availability of the cast and crew). The play running from October 31 - November 3. Please prepare 32 bars (one or two minutes) of a musical theatre song that fits the style of the show and best demonstrates your vocal abilities. Please come prepared with sheet music so the pianist will be able to provide you with piano accompaniment. You will receive a short scene that you will be asked to read during your audition (it will be a cold read). You may be given further instruction about the scene by the director at your audition. Please look it over upon your arrival prior to your audition time. Please Note: You do not need to memorize the scene. A dance/movement segment of the audition will be required for all those auditioning. Please come wearing dance appropriate clothing, as you will not be able to change at the audition. A session of callback auditions may be held on Wednesday, July 17 at the discretion of the artistic team and may only require certain individuals. They are not an indication of whether you will be cast in the show, or if you are up for receiving a specific role in the production. Range: Bb2 – G4. A suave man who adores his wife and children and takes immense pride in being an Addams. He struggles with keeping his daughter’s secret from his wife, whom he adores more than death.
Range: G3 – Bb5. The beautiful, leggy, and mysterious head of the Addams family. A strong-willed and independent woman, she commands respect and has a high level of sophistication. Her husband Gomez is madly in love with her.
Range: A3 – E5. Gothic, with a deadpan wit, Wednesday is a princess of darkness who has recently discovered love. She finds herself torn between her new “normal” fiancé and her eccentric family.
102-200 (Range: G4 – F5) Fun and quirky, but don’t mess with Grandma. She can be feisty and wise, with a surprising amount of energy and a love for concocting potions and spells.
Range: C3–G4. The brother of Gomez, Fester is an energetic, joyous, child-like presence. He is in love with the moon and acts as the family’s cheerleader.
Range: Eb2 – E4. The Addams family butler who knows all and says less. This towering mute has a commanding presence and only occasionally utters deep moans or groans.
Range: C3 – A4. The uptight and conservative father of Lucas and husband to Alice. He strives to be the voice of reason in his family and often clashes with the Addamses’ way of life.
Range: Ab3 – G#5. Lucas’s mother and Mal’s wife. Alice is a sweet, quirky woman with a sense of humor, who often speaks in rhyme. She experiences a significant transformation over the course of the story.
Range: C3 – C5. The hopeful romantic young man who has fallen in love with Wednesday and plans to marry her. He is trying to find the balance between his family’s expectations and his love for Wednesday.
Various Ages (All Vocal Ranges) – The ensemble will consist of ancestors who serve as the living, breathing add-ons to the Addams family story. They will sing, dance, and portray various supporting roles throughout the show.
