With a mad scientist, his grotesque assistant, and terrified wails from a hidden cellar,what could go wrong? Jack Sharkey’s The Creature Creeps features the hilariously spooky story of Donald Von Blitzen, a not-so-subtle mad scientist with something to hide, Mord, Donald’s decrepit and fiendish assistant, Daisy, Donald’s dopey daughter, Frank Sterling, Daisy’s betrothed, Babsy Ballou, Daisy’s college friend, and the rest of the Von Blitzen family, which all have their farcical quirks. When Daisy returns to Castle Von Blitzen nestled deep within Transylvania with Frank and Babsy in tow just as her father is on the brink of a discovery, what will Donald do? Will he be able to keep them from discovering his secret? Will the townspeople ever find out where their missing neighbors are? Will anyone figure out the origin of those ghoulish screams from the cellar? That’s what the villagers would like to know when the scientist and his assistant convert their innocent parlor into a devilish experimental laboratory, invoking both hysterical laughter and outrageous applause. A mad scientist, owner of Castle Von Blitzen, who shares traits with another famous Transylvanian denizen. Donald is relatively mild-mannered for a Baron but can appear as terrifying as a ghost at a moment’s notice if provoked.
Donald’s dopey, air-headed daughter who has been away at college for several years. She has been seeking a lover for some time and has found one in Frank.
A bicycle salesman who is extremely frank and has a sterling character. Frank is the newly engaged fiancé of Daisy.
Daisy’s college friend who is slightly less ditzy than Daisy, Babsy is a mildly timid and inquisitive girl who seems to be just as skeptical about Castle Von Blitzen as Frank is.
The hunchbacked and ghoulish assistant to Donald, Mord seems to know no bounds when it comes to social norms and personal space. He is eager to please, especially if it includes some morbid jokes and maniacal laughter.
Stricter and more efficient than her fiendish counterpart Mord, Gretchen is the family housekeeper of Castle Von Blitzen. Ancient in appearance, Gretchen always seems to be adorned with an outfit of black and a fleeting, crooked smile.
Whether she’s conversing with the spirits, Maritza is the oldest Zitzen sister and is married to Donald. She is the epitome of gloomy aristocracy: stylish gowns, expensive jewels, and a coronet that is befitting her station. With Roma blood, she can be both inspiring and kooky.
Engaged to Hans Shtunken, Hannah is the second oldest Zitzen sister and is a doctor just like her fiancé.
Engaged to Fritz Shtunken, Freda is the third oldest Zitzen sister and is a court stenographer, one that is in the same practice as her lawyer fiancé.
Engaged to Otto Shtunken, Olga is the fourth oldest Zitzen sister and is a bagger at the village grocery store, the same grocery store that her fiancé owns.
Engaged to Heinrich Shtunken, Heidi is the youngest Zitzen sister and, differently, is the delectable, flashy goddess of the five. In her low-cut dresses and exaggerated makeup, Heidi looks as young as Daisy and acts the part too. She inspires both her fiancé and Frank in more ways than one.
Hans Shtunken, Fritz Shtunken, Otto Shtunken, Heinrich Shtunken, and The Creature Hans—a doctor and fiancé to Hannah, Fritz—a lawyer and fiancé to Freda, Otto—a merchant and fiancé to Olga, and Heinrich—a police chief and fiancé to Heidi, are four peas in a pod that seem to all (all, or one?) have a secret. Perhaps Donald will introduce the Creature to them to help with this secret. [Important Note: All five of these roles are played by the same performer.]
