27 roles

Ivan MolokovMale18-56 y.o.All ethnicities

"CHESS" Bass Russian. Vocal Range: low F# to high G. Ivan Molokov is Anatoly’s chess second and personal assistant. He also happens to be a KGB agent hell-bent on helping the Soviet agenda in any way possible. Molokov is manipulative, dark and quite dangerous. On the surface, he is a cuddly Russian bear, but not far down he is a snake. He speaks of loyalty and dedication to Anatoly, but displays none of these qualities himself.

Florence VassyFemale33-37 y.o.All ethnicities

"CHESS" Mezzo-Soprano Belt to E. Florence is Freddie's chess second, personal assistant and lover. She was born in Hungary, but at the age of five she had to flee due to the Soviet forces. During the conflict between Hungary and the Soviet Union she lost all of her family; some are confirmed dead, while her father Gregor is simply missing and presumed dead. Florence was raised in England (or America, depending on the version).

Anatoly SergievskyMale40-44 y.o.All ethnicities

"CHESS" Baritone Russian. Vocal range:low A to high B flat. Anatoly is the Soviet challenger to Freddie at the World Chess Championship. Although he has hit a great level of success in his field, he is uncertain that winning the championship is his dream anymore.

Freddie TrumperMale33-37 y.o.All ethnicities

"CHESS" Tenor American. Vocal range: low B flat to high C. Freddie is the defending World Chess Champion. He has turned the chess world on its head, heavily popularizing the sport through his rock-star persona. Freddie is an outspoken and arrogant figure. He believes that he is the best player alive and that the game of chess owes a great deal to him. He is not intimidated by Anatoly Sergievsky, his challenger to the World Champion throne.

SvetlanaFemale36-39 y.o.All ethnicities

"CHESS" Mezzo-Soprano Russian. Svetlana is Anatoly's beautiful and elegant wife. She has two children with Anatoly and has supported him throughout many trials and tribulations. She is a dramatic contrast to Florence; while Florence is a cosmopolitan woman with a great amount of independence and confidence, Svetlana is an elegant yet traditional woman. She is much more grounded and domestic. She loves Anatoly, but she realizes that she'll never be able to combat his flaws and obsessions.

Gregor VassyMale18-56 y.o.All ethnicities

"CHESS" Baritone Hungarian. Vocal range: low A to high G. Gregor is Florence's kind father who goes missing after the Soviet's attack Hungary. He appears at the beginning of the show, again on screen (although singing live) in Act II, and at the end. In Act I, we see him with six-year-old Florence. He sings to her the 'Story of Chess' and a 'Hungarian Lullaby'.

ArbiterMale18-56 y.o.All ethnicities

"CHESS" Baritone The Arbiter is the no-nonsense judge of the World Chess championship. Additionally, the Arbiter is a sort of narrator for some scenes, particularly in Act II. The Arbiter takes his job very seriously, and is confident in his decisions. He has an almost smug air about him that suggests that he believes himself to be superior to most people. He sings in a tricky quartet, and depending upon the version of Chess used he sings one or two major songs.

Walter de CourceyMale18-56 y.o.All ethnicities

"CHESS" Bass American. Bass-baritone down to G sharp. Walter is a marketing agent for Global Television, a network that covers the World Chess Championship. Over the course of the musical he becomes Freddie's agent for the network when Freddie leaves the game of chess. Walter is the American equivalent of Anatoly's second Molokov; he seems like a respectable and trustworthy man.

Archibald CravenMale35-45 y.o.All ethnicities

"The Secret Garden: The Musical" Baritone British accent. Mary's uncle and Colin's father, who suffers from a hunchback. Archibald is haunted by the death of his wife, Lily, and struggles to even look at his son, Colin. He is trapped in a neverending cycle of guilt and grief, which has turned the manor into a mausoleum. Archibald spends most of his time traveling away from home, since he cannot bear the reminders of Lily in the house and in his son.

Dr. Neville CravenMale35-45 y.o.All ethnicities

"The Secret Garden: The Musical" Baritone British accent. Archibald's brother, and Colin's primary doctor. Neville also maintains a painful, unrequited love for Lily, his brother's dead wife. His attachment to that love keeps him at his brother's manor, confined by his own lost hopes. Neville feels responsible for his nephew Colin's ill health, and also for taking care of his brother.

DickonMale18-25 y.o.All ethnicities

"The Secret Garden: The Musical" Tenor Yorkshire accent. Dickon is Martha's younger brother, and assists Ben with the caretaking of the grounds. He grew up on the Misselthwaite grounds, so he's intimately connected to the land. Dickon has quite the green thumb, as well as a special touch with the animals. It even seems, sometimes, like Dickon can speak with them.

MarthaFemale18-34 y.o.All ethnicities

"The Secret Garden: The Musical" Mezzo-Soprano Yorkshire accent. Martha is a faithful housekeeper at Misseithwaite Manor, and becomes Mary's main caretaker when she arrives. LilyFemale25-35 y.o.All ethnicities

"The Secret Garden: The Musical" Soprano British accent. Mary's aunt and Archibald's wife. Ten years before the play begins, Lily passed away in childbirth. In the play, Lily appears (generally unseen by the characters) as a haunting spirit in the manor. In life, Lily was beloved by both her husband, Archibald, and his brother, Neville, though she never returned the affections of the latter. Lily was sweet, earnest, and pure.
