About the project: As the half-blood son of a Greek god, Percy Jackson has newly discovered powers he can’t control, a destiny he doesn’t want, and a mythology textbook’s worth of monsters on his trail. When Zeus’s master lightning bolt is stolen and Percy becomes the prime suspect, he has to find and return the bolt to prove his innocence and prevent a war between the gods. But to succeed on his quest, Percy will have to do more than catch the thief. He must travel to the Underworld and back; solve the riddle of the Oracle, which warns him of betrayal by a friend; and come to terms with the father who abandoned him. Adapted from the best-selling book The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan and featuring a thrilling original rock score, The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical is an action-packed mythical adventure “worthy of the gods” (Time Out New York). Additional info: Please be prepared to perform a two-minute monologue from modern/contemporary theater and sing 32 bars from a contemporary musical theater song (ideally in the styles of the show). Please bring your sheet music scored for piano and in your preferred key. Make sure to mark the cut you are singing. If you are able to send directors your music in advance and bring it with you in a 3-ring binder, they would really appreciate it. An accompanist will be provided. Note: For auditionees who would like to know more about the show and production process, a non-mandatory interest meeting will be held at Live Arts in VA, on March 30, 2024, from 2-3:30 pm. Performances: July 12, 13, 18, 19, 20, 21, 25, 26, 27, 28. Callbacks: Saturday, April 13, 2-5:30 pm. Note: a dance/movement call will be included. Please wear clothes you are comfortable moving in.
