Casting Performers for a Theatre Season

"A Chorus Line" The director and choreographer of the show for which the dancers are auditioning. He is a stage veteran and thus can be curt and harsh, but he is revealed to be a caring and empathetic man who truly grows to care about these dancers. Should have movement ability, as he demonstrates a few dance moves.

"A Chorus Line" Zach’s assistant who teaches and demonstrates the audition dances. Needs to be an incredible dancer, as he/she is the standard to which all of the auditioning dancers are held.

"A Chorus Line" Baritone. From the Bronx. Street tough, macho, and newly married to Kristine; very protective. Seeking a strong singer, as he is the contrast to the non-singing Kristine in “Sing.”

"A Chorus Line" Mezzo. Very insecure about her looks and tries to be funny to cover her insecurities. Feels a little excluded but just wants to be liked. She is quiet, vulnerable and kind. Sings the middle harmony in “At the Ballet.”

"A Chorus Line" Baritone. Flamboyant, funny, bitchy, and witty. Very sharp tongue. Covers everything over with a joke; had a very hard childhood. From upstate New York.

"A Chorus Line" Mezzo belt. Returning to the chorus after years of being a featured performer. She is having to humble herself to audition for the chorus again with younger and less experienced dancers. Previously had a relationship with Zach and it did not end well. Seeking a true triple threat performer, as she sings the iconic “The Music and the Mirror.”

"A Chorus Line" Alto. Experienced dancer. Married. Petite. A bit of a mother hen with a great sense of humor. Should believably play 4’10’’. Usually played by an Asian actress but if no Asian performers audition the role becomes a Southerner from the Carolinas.

"A Chorus Line" Mezzo belt. A streetwise Latina who is a little bit tough, and eternal optimist. A determined and athletic dancer from the Bronx. Sings “Nothing,” in which she reveals herself to be funny, charming, and vulnerable.

"A Chorus Line" Baritone. Ladies’ man, married, and into cars, money, and women. Very sure of himself. All American guy. Cocky because he has worked with Zach before. From Kansas City.

"A Chorus Line" Baritone. Sassy, Jewish. Quite a know it all and has worked with Zach before. Very East Side New York.

"A Chorus Line" Mezzo. Funny, gawky, nervous. Warm and hopeful. Very awkward except when she dances.

"A Chorus Line" Al’s scatter-brained wife who can’t sing. She is awkward, anxious and hilarious. She “speaks” the song “Sing,” but does sing in the ensemble numbers of the show.

"A Chorus Line" Mezzo. A sweetheart, little sister type. Dreamer. Fairly experienced dancer from California. Seeking an incredibly warm singer with a mix belt up to E natural for the soaring climax of “At the Ballet.”

"A Chorus Line" Tenor. Optimistic; first-timer; naïve but charming. Great dancer and AllAmerican kid. Hormonally charged.

"A Chorus Line" Tenor. Quite aggressive, determined, cocky, sure of himself, but likable. dancer who has worked with Zach before. Experienced; flirtatious. From New Jersey. Must be able to dance.

"A Chorus Line" Baritone. Introverted and slightly insecure but loves performing; only now starting to feel comfortable about being gay and accepted by his parents. From Spanish Harlem, New York. Friends with Diana. Delivers a beautiful, raw and vulnerable monologue about coming out to his parents.

"A Chorus Line" Tenor. From Missouri. African-American; strong dancer, enthusiastic, cool and very funny. Likable and laid back.

"A Chorus Line" Alto. Oldest dancer on the line. Confident, brassy, and sophisticated. One of the more popular dancers; humorous. Sings the low harmony in “At the Ballet.”

"A Chorus Line" Mezzo belt. Sexy, sassy, funny. A foul-mouthed but excellent dancer who couldn’t get performing jobs because of her looks until she had plastic surgery. A brazen, direct, attention-seeker from Vermont. Sings the infamous “Dance 10-Looks 3” in the HS production called “This and That”.

"Sweeney Todd" An entrepreneurial meat pie shop owner who will do whatever it takes to survive. She is in love with Todd and hopes that he’ll forget the past and build a new life with her. At first shocked by Sweeney’s bursts of violence, Lovett turns his desire for revenge into a profitable business venture. She is resourceful, ambitious, charismatic, and has great comedic timing. Mezzo with belt. Speaks with a Cockney accent.

"Sweeney Todd" Hope A youthful sailor who helps Sweeney return to London and unexpectedly falls in love with Johanna. He is idealistic, romantic and a little reckless. His passions sometimes get the better of his reason and his enthusiasm sometimes makes him unintentionally comedic. Over the course of the show he awakens to the horrors around him and becomes disillusioned with London. Tenor.

"Sweeney Todd" Todd's long-lost daughter and Judge Turpin's young ward. Homeschooled and largely homebound. She has a rebellious, subversive and romantic streak and longs to escape her confinement. Johanna is aware that Judge Turpin isn’t her real father and suspects that he might be a predator. Like her father, she has experienced trauma and possesses a buried capacity for violence.

"Sweeney Todd" A lecherous public official who portrays himself as a sanctimonious authoritarian. He takes advantage of his position to imprison Todd, assault Lucy, and take Johanna in as his ward. He is aware that what he wants and what he’s done is wrong, yet chooses to ignore or push against his conscience. Embodies Puritanitcal hypocrisy: he lusts after Johanna, even as he professes to keep her innocent. Bass/baritone. Speaks with a standard British accent.

"Sweeney Todd" A pompous public official who is responsible for the health and safety of London. He possesses a dry, deadpan sense of humor and enjoys wielding his power. He is not a sniveling civil servant. He is deeply loyal to Turpin, though in his heart of hearts he believes he’s better than the judge. The Beadle loves singing children’s nursery rhymes, which remind him of his youth. Tenor with a strong falsetto. Speaks with a standard British accent.

"Sweeney Todd" An eerie, poor soul living on the streets of London. She supports herself by begging and prostituting herself to sailors. The Beggar Woman is Sweeney’s wife, Lucy, who lost her mind after being assaulted by Turpin and taking poison. She has occasional flashes of lucidity and distrusts Mrs. Lovett. Like the oracle Cassandra, She is the only one who sees what’s happening but no one will listen to her. Mezzo. Speaks with a Cockney or Estuary accent.

"Sweeney Todd" An Irish former employee of Sweeney’s who has since developed a public persona as a flamboyant and flashy world-famous Italian barber. A charlatan who sells fake medicine and challenges other barbers to shaving contests. Pirelli is charming, calculating, and over-the-top comedic. Possess some anti-English sentiments and does not take lightly to being publicly embarrassed by Sweeney. High tenor. Speaks in both an Italian and Irish accent.

"Sweeney Todd" The owner of Fogg's Asylum. Fogg sells the hair of inmates to wigmakers. Considers the inmates “children” and takes pleasure in showing them off to visitors. Chooses to ignore the human rights of his patients in the name of scientific progress. An authoritarian who is really a coward at heart. Speaking role who sings with the ensemble. Speaks with an Estuary dialect.

"Wild Party" Lead - Soprano; F3-F5; Belting, Jazz, Legit Queenie is a blonde, beautiful, sexy Vaudeville Dancer. She is young, in her 20s, but tired looking. She is in love with Burrs, but their relationship is toxic; she seems afraid of being alone. She wants to get away from Burrs but doesn’t know how so she decides to throw a party to make him jealous and put a little bit of excitement into her life. At the party, she falls in love with Mr. Black and her life starts spiraling out of control

"Wild Party" Lead - Tenor; G3-A5; Belting, Jazz, Legit A Vaudeville clown who is dangerous but sexy. He is addicted to Queenie in a passionate, frightening, seductive way. He has a very fiery temper, is sexually ravenous and is quick to jealousy, so when he suspects that Queenie and Black are interested in each other, he starts to go a little crazy, until finally losing it completely when he discovers them in bed together at the show’s end.

"Wild Party" Lead - Baritone; F3-G5; Belting, Jazz, Legit Strong, handsome, and poised without being posed. An enigmatic loner. Protective. No-nonsense kind of guy who cannot understand Queenie's attraction to Burrs. African-American.

"Wild Party" Lead - Mezzo-Soprano; F3-E5; Belting, Jazz Kate is a ‘friend’ and enemy of Queenie’s and is in love with Burrs. She comes to the party so that she can distract Queenie with Mr. Black and she can finally have her way with Burrs. She is a high-class whore and a cocaine addict, and things don’t work out quite the way she had hoped.

"Wild Party" Featured - Mezzo-Soprano; A3-E5; Belting, Jazz A sexually hungry lesbian friend of Queenie and Burrs. She spends the party trying to find a lover but doesn’t seem to be having much luck. She sings ‘An Old-Fashioned Love Story’.

"Wild Party" Featured - Baritone; A3-A5; Jazz, Legit Mae’s husband. He is very dim-witted and can go quickly from being a lovable teddy bear who adores his wife, to being a violent brute. He drinks a lot of beer during the party and at one point tries to fight Burrs.

"Wild Party" Featured - Mezzo-Soprano; D3-D5; Belting Eddie’s wife. She is very little and cute and not very bright. She loves her husband, dotes on him and thinks that he is the ‘cat’s meow’.

"Wild Party" Featured - Baritone; C2-A5; Belting; Jazz One half of The Brothers D’Armano. A composer and an entertainer. He looks like his brother’s twin and is just as flamboyant. They are writing a musical about the Garden of Eden (with Queenie in mind) which they give a preview of at the party in the number ‘A Wild, Wild Party’.

"Wild Party" Featured - Tenor; A3-B5; Belting, Jazz One half of The Brothers D’Armano. A composer and entertainer. He looks like his brother’s twin and is just as flamboyant. He and his brother are writing a musical about the Garden of Eden (with Queenie in mind) which they give a preview of at the party in the number ‘A Wild, Wild, Party’.

"Wild Party" Featured - Dancer Jackie is Queenie and Burrs dancer friend who is a mute. He blends in with the rest of the party-goers until the Second Act when he awakens after ‘Come With Me’ to find the entire party passed out and has his own silent dance number (‘Jackie’s Last Dance’). He only expresses himself through dance.

"Wild Party" Ensemble - Tenor; A3-B5; Belting, Jazz Max is one of the party-goers. He has a couple of solos, playing ‘God’ at the beginning of ‘A Wild, Wild Party’ and he is the ‘orgasmic man’. Sometimes asked to jazz scat.

"Wild Party" Ensemble - Alto; A3-A5; Jazz, Legit A hooker who has her eyes on Sam (the producer) the whole party. Very sexy with a sultry voice.

"Wild Party" Ensemble - Mezzo-Soprano; A3-A5, Belting, Jazz The only minor at the party. She is very naive and trying to keep up with everything that’s going on around her. She is sought after by Madelaine True and Burrs and doesn’t quite know how to handle their attention.

"Wild Party" Ensemble - Baritone; A3-A5; Belting, Jazz A busy New York Producer that loves attention. He is being pursued by Dolores and seems reluctant until the party becomes sexual; he then seems to change his tune.
