About the project: Synopsis: Escanaba in da Moonlight is a snapshot into the lives of the Soady men. Retreating to their "home away from home" in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan they can spend time together doing their two favorite things ... drinking and bagging bucks. At 35, though, Reuben Soady is in danger of being the oldest family member in history without a buck to call his own. Laughs abound as you get a glimpse into this traditional male rite of passage as lived out in the unique "Yooper" way. Additional info: - The audition will consist of cold readings from the script. - You can download an audition form from the attachment, fill it out, and bring it with you to auditions. - Attaching a full resume is appreciated, as is a headshot. If you do not have one or both of those, please do not let that keep you from auditions. A completed form will suffice. Patriarch of the Soady clan. Uneducated but somewhat wise. Loves his family, hunting, and tradition, not necessarily in that order. Keeper of the “Bible” at the Soady family hunting cabin. The voice of whatever reason there is at the cabin.
Older son of Albert, older brother of Remnar. Married to Wolf Moon Dance Soady. Not the sharpest knife in the drawer. Believes he is jinxed and may be going a bit mad over the fact that he is now tied for the record of the oldest Soady to not have shot his first buck, a fact his father attributes not to a jinx, but to the fact that “Yer a shitty shot”. The target of his younger brother’s jibes.
Reuben’s younger brother. Skilled hunter. Never ceases to remind his big brother about his own skill and his brother’s lack thereof. Even less sharp than his brother. Strong on the traditions of the cabin. Lives for deer season, “Christmas with guns”. Single.
“Ageless”Best friend of Reuben and Remnar. May have been a little strange before he was abducted by aliens, now very strange, including the odd way he speaks. A very unique character. Capable of great feats of bodily ingestion and output.
Ranger with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, or DNR. Recent transfer to the Upper Peninsula and does not yet know the ways of the land there. Believes he saw God on the ridge just now—not God’s ways, not God’s works, not God’s creatures, GOD.
Married to Reuben. Full-blooded Ojibwa, wise in the mysterious ways of her people. Trying to help her husband overcome his buckless streak. On stage for the last two pages only, but her influence is felt throughout.
