11 roles

Elwood P. DowdMale30-49 y.o.All ethnicities

A friendly, likable man – dignified with a dreamy twinkle in his eye– who just happens to have a 6-foot invisible rabbit as a friend. He also happens to drink- a lot. This does not affect his manner, however– he’s not a drunk, not loud and boisterous. He’s simply a man who never met a stranger and is immediately friends with everyone he meets.

Veta Louise SimmonsFemale40-69 y.o.All ethnicities

Harvey’s sister, a social climber whose efforts to join the “society elite” have been hampered by her brother and his invisible friend. Has some money, but not extravagantly wealthy. More than anything, she wishes everything could be “normal” so that she and her daughter could enjoy being part of the “in crowd”.

Myrtle Mae SimmonsFemale20-29 y.o.All ethnicities

Veta’s daughter and Elwood’s niece. Has lived a somewhat sheltered life and wishes she could really “live” and experience the world. Tries to act more worldly than she really is. Loves her uncle, but is also frustrated by the impact of his behavior on her and her mother’s lives.

Lyman SandersonMale30-49 y.o.All ethnicities

A young doctor at the sanitarium. Seems more interested in impressing Dr. Chumley and in scoring a date with Nurse Kelly than he is in his patients. Holds Dr. Chumley in high regard and speaks of him/interacts with him with much reverence.

Ruth KellyFemale20-39 y.o.All ethnicities

Young, energetic nurse. Nice to everyone, but not a pushover. Has the world experience that Myrtle wishes she had. Knows full well what Dr. Sanderson is interested in.

Duane WilsonMale20-49 y.o.All ethnicities

Large, imposing presence - he is the sanitarium “muscle”. It's his job to take care of unruly patients and to know when to keep his mouth shut about what happens there.

William ChumleyMale50-69 y.o.All ethnicities

Director and founder of “Chumley’s Rest” Sanitarium. A well-respected doctor – pompous, confident, and lordly. He is good and he knows it.

Betty ChumleyFemale40-69 y.o.All ethnicities

Dr. Chumley’s wife – a good-natured, bustling woman. Knows how to handle her husband (the “Great” Dr. Chumley).

Mrs. Ethel ChauvenetFemale50-79 y.o.All ethnicities

Society elite woman that represents everything Veta wants to be. Wealthy and comfortable, she is used to the etiquette and manners of a polite society lifestyle.

Judge Omar GaffneyMale50-89 y.o.All ethnicities

The stereotypical, archetype of the older white-haired judge. Stern, no-nonsense man. Does not have time for foolishness.

E. J. LofgrenMale18-56 y.o.All ethnicities

Cab driver - he drives patients out to the Sanitarium and takes them home after they are released. Has seen the results of the care provided at the Sanitarium, so he is a straight shooter about things. Not unkind - just tells it like it is.
