About the project: Plot synopsis: Mr. Green, an elderly, retired dry cleaner, wanders into New York traffic and is almost hit by a car driven by Ross Gardiner, a 29-year-old corporate executive. The young man is given a community service of helping the recent widower once a week for six months. What starts as a comedy about two men who do not want to be in the same room together becomes a gripping and moving drama as they get to know each other, come to care about each other, and open old wounds they’ve been hiding and nursing for years. Rate: No pay – volunteer organization. Additional info: Arrive early for paperwork and schedule comparison. Callbacks will be by invitation Wednesday, March 29, 2023, if required. First read-through will be on Saturday, April 1, 2023. Auditions will consist of cold reads from the script and other media chosen by director. No accents required. Please bring a resume of theatrical experience and a head shot. Appointments not necessary. Rehearsals and Performance Dates: Rehearsal schedule will be Monday -Thursday 6:00-10:00 p.m.; based on Cast availability. Sunday evenings might be added within the last two (2) to three (3) weeks of rehearsals, if required. Rehearsal Start Time will be based on availability of Cast. Performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 p.m. and Sundays at 2:00 p.m. from Friday, May 19, 2023 – Sunday, June 11, 2023. Saturday, May 27th and Saturday, June 10th will have a matinee performance at 2:00 pm and an evening performance at 8:00 pm. COVID-19 Policy: Anyone auditioning for this show, or accompanying someone auditioning, must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19, and be prepared to show Proof of Vaccine and Photo I.D. Age: Portray mid- 80s (86) Line Load: Heavy Stage Time: Almost Always on Stage. Characteristics: Mr. Green is an Orthodox Jew and a recent widower with a sharp wit & at times a sharp tongue. Mr. Green is intelligent, humorous, and stubborn, at times, with a sensitivity that he often keeps hidden. Since the death of his beloved wife, he has kept to himself & rarely leaves his apartment. Mr. Green is leery of Ross when the weekly visits begin, but eventually forms a true friendship with Ross.
Age: Portray 29 Line Load: Heavy Stage Time: Almost Always on Stage. Characteristics: Ross is a driven American Express executive with a strained family relation because he has not told his parents he is gay. At first, Ross is bitter about having to visit Mr. Green weekly, but with time, Ross and Mr. Green form a true friendship. The actor portraying Ross should be fit in appearance, as the character is training to run the New York marathon.
