About the project: MONTY PYTHON’S SPAMALOT retells the legend of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table, and features a bevy of beautiful show girls, not to mention killer rabbits, cows and French people. King Arthur recruits Knights of the Round Table to join him on a quest to find the holy grail. While the musical is based on the film Monty Python and the Holy Grail, it is really a parody of, and an homage to musical theater. The 2005 Broadway production won three Tony® Awards, including Best Musical. Additional info: Prepare at least 32 bars of a comedic, up-tempo song in the same style as the show Bring recorded accompaniment (The company has a Bluetooth speaker) or sheet music. An accompanist will be provided. NO ACAPELLA- Dress comfortably and be prepared to dance. The choreographer will teach a dance sequence. Bring tap shoes if you can tap dance. The King of England sets out on a quest to form the Knights of the Round Table and find the Holy Grail. Great humor. Good singer. Vocal: Baritone (Low G2 - High F4) Dialect: English - royal Dance: Minimal but must be a good mover.
A Diva. Strong, beautiful, possesses mystical powers. Powerful singing voice is essential as she must be able to sing effortlessly in many styles and vocal registers. Must have top-notch comic timing and vocal improv skills. Vocal: Alto with a large range (Low E3 - High B6) Belting a must. Dialect: English/Diva
A Knight of the Round Table. Ironically called ‘Sir Robin the Brave’, though he couldn’t be more cowardly. Joins the Knights for the singing and dancing. May also play Guard 1. Vocal: Tenor/Baritone (Low D3 - High G4) Dialect: English - [posh] Dance: Strong
A Knight of the Round Table. He is fearless to a bloody fault but through a twist of fate, does discover his softer side. This actor must be great with character voices and accents. May also play the French Taunter, Knight of Ni, Tim the Enchanter. Vocal: Tenor (Low C3 - High E4) Dialects: English - slightly cockney (possibly French, high pitched voice and heavy Scottish) Dance: Some dance ability.
King Arthur’s horse and servant. Under-appreciated but always longing for King Arthur’s approval. Good, funny, physical mover, tap dancer. May also play the Mayor of Finland. Dialect: English - slightly cockney Dance: Strong - tap dancer
A Knight of the Round Table. Begins as Dennis, a lower class ‘mud gatherer’ who becomes knighted and transforms into the dashing Sir Galahad. May also play - Prince Herbert’s Father and the Black Knight. Vocal: Bari-Tenor (Low Bflat3 - High Bflat 5. Dialect: English, becomes very posh once knighted. Dance: Minimal - must be able to move well.
A Knight of the Round Table. An inept scholar. No solo singing. May also play Dennis Galahad’s Mother and Concorde - Sir Lancelot’s horse. Vocal: Baritone (Low D3 - High G4) Dialect: English Dance: Minimal - must be able to move well.
The hopeful and frilly prince who loves to sing and pines for his love atop a tower. May also play Not Dead Fred and the Minstrel. Vocal: Tenor (Low A2 - High A5) Dialect: English Dance: Strong - must be able to move well as Fred. Historian: A tweedy academic (the Narrator). Might also play Brother Maynard, a long-winded monk. Vocal: Any Dialect: English - refined, professorial Dance: None
The Laker Girls/Camelot Showgirls The Lady of the Lake’s posse. Featured throughout the show. Must be strong dancers and singers. 6 roles are available. Many fun smaller character roles (see below).
