"A Christmas Story" Show Needs Performers
ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE ACCEPTED. Seeking talent for "A Christmas Story" Show. Please see the details below. About the project: A young boy named Ralphie Parker only wants one thing for Christmas: a Red Ryder BB gun. However, he is not sure he will ever make it to Christmas, between his brother Randy and the school bully Scut Farkus. Whenever he tells someone how much he wants it, he/she tells him that he will shoot his eye out and refuses to get it for him. Even a department store Santa Claus tells him the same thing. After Ralphie gets a C+, he gets teased again by Scut. In response, Ralphie beats him very badly while cursing loudly. However, his parents do not get mad at him, and on Christmas morning, he gets the BB gun, since his father had one at that age. When he goes to try it out, the BB ricochets and knocks off his glasses, which he accidentally steps upon while looking for them. He makes up a story about an icicle, and his parents believe him. In the end, a horde of dogs come in and steal the Christmas turkey, so his family goes out for “Chinese turkey,” or duck. Additional info: Please see the attachment for details. 5 roles
Ralphie’s older and wiser alter-ego— the future version of himself. Serves as the Narrator of the play. Must be a natural storyteller. He may be an adult, but when telling this story, he is still a child at heart.
Ralphie’s patient mother with firm convictions – in particular, that her son should not own an air rifle. It takes a lot to ruffle her feathers, but the provocative leg lamp that Ralphie’s father wins seems to do the trick. She oozes nothing but genuine love and concern for her family.
The Parker family’s beleaguered patriarch, is a grumpy, good-hearted father with a penchant for highly original (and to the audience’s ears profanity-free) outbursts and a deeply held desire to be a winner. Mix of over-the-top anger and genuine love for his family. Thinks he’s pretty clever.
Ralphie’s teacher. Featured in one of Ralphie’s fantasies where she is very impressed with his homework. Can be an old-fashioned curmudgeon or a strangely vibrant and expressive teacher— seeking a creative character actress!
Not the real one obviously, but the tired, annoyed department store one. Not afraid to crush a child's Christmas wish with his foot.
