James Cameron is no stranger to creating cinematic masterpieces. He's done it multiple times with Titanic, Terminator, Avatar 1, Avatar: The Way of Water, and many more. And now, he's looking to do it again with Avatar 3.

The first Avatar film, released in 2009, was a worldwide success and earned the number 1 spot as the highest-grossing movie of all time. This was after it earned $2.923 billion at the box office, which is pretty impressive for a movie with only $237 million as its budget.

It goes to show how highly received the movie was. The sequel, Avatar: The Way of Water, released in December 2022 after more than a decade, was close enough as it also earned $2.32 billion at the box office, making this a multibillion-dollar franchise. It is also the third highest-grossing movie of all time, just behind Avengers: Endgame and Avatar 1.

And now, James Cameron has confirmed that the films will have multiple sequels up to Avatar 5. But first, we expect an Avatar 3.

Avatar 3 is expected to follow the adventures of the Na'vi tribe yet also reveal a new clan within the tribe called The Ash People. These people are said to exist within the volcanic areas in Pandora. They are said to be aggressive and will draw their own power from the fire, which is a contrast to what we saw in Avatar 2.

James Cameron explains that this is because he plans to show that there is good and bad in every race, thereby completely switching the storyline from what we are originally used to.

There are only bits of information available on what the plot will be, but we know the potential is limitless!

When Is Avatar 3 Coming Out?

Avatar 3 is currently set to be released on December 19, 2025, in the United States. This is also the same date of release for many countries, including Canada and the UK.

Before this, it was scheduled for release on December 20, 2024, but was delayed by a year for many reasons, including the Covid lockdown period, which restricted productions, and the recent Writers' strike.

Yet, prior to this, the film had been stated to be released in 2015, then in 2020, but there was no luck in sticking with these dates.

The plus side to this story is that the production team and all the creatives behind the movie will have enough time to make it a masterpiece just like the ones before it.

It is also highly likely that the studios will stick to the current 2025 date.
