Casting calls in British Columbia: Vancouver is one of the largest production centres in North America and the physical home of a great deal of American streaming television. Disney shot Camp Rock 3, Coven Academy, Descendants: Wicked Wonderland and Percy Jackson and the Olympians season three in British Columbia across 2025 and 2026.

If you want to work on American streaming television without living in America, British Columbia is the answer. A large share of the shows people watch on Disney+, HBO and Netflix are physically made in and around Vancouver, and they are made here for most of the year rather than in short bursts.

Disney alone shot Camp Rock 3, Coven Academy, Descendants: Wicked Wonderland and Percy Jackson and the Olympians season three in the province across 2025 and 2026. HBO filmed The Last of Us season three in Vancouver through 2026. Netflix leases long-term stage space at Martini Film Studios.

This guide covers where the work is, how pay actually works here, what has been shooting, and how to tell a legitimate casting call from a fake one.

Where the casting work is in British Columbia

Vancouver and the Lower Mainland

Effectively the whole market, and one of the busiest production cities on the continent. Productions base in Vancouver and shoot across the Lower Mainland — Burnaby, Langley, Squamish and beyond — with the city itself regularly standing in for American locations. The Last of Us shot its third season at Bridge Studios with downtown Vancouver doubling for Seattle.

Vancouver extras work is consistently one of the strongest-performing casting markets on allcasting, which is a fair proxy for how much volume runs through here.

What's filming in British Columbia

Disney's teen and family slate

British Columbia is the single most important location in the world for Disney's young-cast productions. Camp Rock 3, Coven Academy, Descendants: Wicked Wonderland and Percy Jackson and the Olympians season three all shot here across 2025 and 2026. If you are a young performer in BC with the right to work, you are in the best possible place for that kind of casting.

See our guide to Disney casting calls for teens for how that slate actually casts.

HBO and Netflix

The Last of Us filmed its third season in Vancouver across most of 2026, based at Bridge Studios. Netflix holds long-term stage space at Martini Film Studios. Our guides to HBO casting calls and Netflix casting calls cover who does the casting on each.

How casting pay works in British Columbia

US rate tables do not apply here. Performers in British Columbia are covered by UBCP/ACTRA, the BC branch of ACTRA, not by SAG-AFTRA. Any guide quoting you $231 per 8 hours for Vancouver background work is reprinting an American contract that has no force in Canada.

  • Read the rate in each individual notice. Canadian casting calls generally post it, and that figure is the one that applies.
  • Union and non-union work both exist. UBCP/ACTRA covers performers on signatory productions; much commercial, corporate and independent work is not covered.
  • Long-run series are the prize. A show shooting here for eight months rebooks the same dependable background performers repeatedly, which is how a day of work turns into a season of it.
  • Payment arrives weeks after the shoot, from a payroll company rather than the production.

If you also work the US market, our guide to extras pay covers the SAG-AFTRA side in full so you can keep the two straight.

What kinds of roles get cast in British Columbia?

Background and extras

The largest category by a wide margin, and the one long-running series need week after week. No agent, no audition, no experience required. See open extras casting calls.

Young performers

Given what Disney shoots here, BC casts children and teenagers more consistently than almost anywhere outside Los Angeles. Submissions for anyone under 18 are made by a parent or legal guardian, and productions working with minors have compliance processes they should explain without being asked.

Co-stars and small speaking roles

Series shooting long runs here cast local performers for small speaking roles throughout a season. These go out through casting directors, so representation helps — but the local pool is far smaller than Los Angeles and new faces do get seen. See acting casting calls.

Stunt and specialty performers

Action and genre work dominates the BC slate, which creates steady demand for stunt-capable performers, trained fighters, drivers and people with verifiable physical skills. That pool is small and the work is well paid relative to general background.

You need the right to work in Canada

This is the thing that decides whether applying here is worth your time. Productions shoot in British Columbia because the infrastructure is here and because hiring locally costs them less than importing performers — no travel, no accommodation, no immigration paperwork.

That is exactly why the market rewards BC residents, and exactly why a Vancouver production will choose an equally suitable local over an American applicant. Be clear on your status before applying: Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or holder of a valid work permit.

How to spot a fake Vancouver casting call

You never pay to register with a casting company or to audition. Legitimate casting companies are paid by productions, not by performers.

The Federal Trade Commission published a consumer alert on virtual casting call scams in December 2025, and the pattern crosses the border unchanged: an unexpected text from a supposed talent scout, a fast-turnaround "virtual audition" for a real and recognisable title, then a sales pitch for photos or classes.

  • Any request for money — registration, "processing", mandatory headshot packages, classes bundled with a promised audition.
  • Anyone offering to arrange a Canadian work permit for a fee. This targets international applicants specifically.
  • Unexpected texts or DMs naming a real Vancouver production. Legitimate casting does not cold-text strangers.
  • Anyone contacting a young performer directly rather than a parent or guardian. Given how much youth casting happens here, this one matters.
  • Impersonation of real casting directors through lookalike domains and new social accounts.
  • Guaranteed roles. Nobody can promise one.

Report suspected scams at ReportFraud.ftc.gov, and verify any casting director independently before replying.

How To

Understand What Vancouver Actually Shoots

Vancouver is not a market that mostly makes its own stories — it is where a large share of American streaming television gets physically produced, which shapes everything about the casting. Series shoot here for six, eight, ten months at a stretch, and they need background and small speaking roles continuously across that whole run rather than in one burst. Disney shoots much of its teen and family slate here. HBO and Netflix both have series in production in the province. That rhythm rewards a particular approach: get registered, stay current, and make yourself easy to rebook, because the same productions will be casting again next month and the month after.

  1. 1
    Get Registered and Stay Current
Vancouver runs on long production cycles, so the people who work steadily are the ones already in the database when a series starts casting its next block. Register with the background casting companies covering the Lower Mainland, build a complete profile with current photos, accurate height and sizes, playable age range and real availability, and update it the moment anything changes.
Pro Tip: Update your photos the day your hair changes. Casting books you from a photo, and arriving looking different is the fastest way to stop being called back on a show that casts every week.
  2. 2
Target the Long Runs, Then Be Easy to Rebook
A series shooting in BC for eight or ten months is worth far more to you than a feature passing through, because it casts background continuously across that whole period and rebooks the people who made the last day easy. Answer bookings fast, arrive early, follow the assistant director, keep your phone away on set, and never leave until an AD has told you that you are wrapped.
Pro Tip: Reliability is the entire reputation game in background work. Casting companies in a market this busy have no shortage of applicants — what they are short of is people who turn up on time and cause no problems.
  3. 3
If You Have a Young Performer, Submit as the Parent
British Columbia casts children and teenagers more consistently than almost anywhere outside Los Angeles, because so much of Disney’s young-cast slate shoots here. Create and manage the profile as the parent or guardian, handle every piece of communication yourself, and expect legitimate productions to have a clear compliance process for minors that they will explain without being pushed.
Pro Tip: Treat any adult who wants to contact your child directly about an audition as a red flag, whatever else looks legitimate. Real casting for minors goes through a parent, guardian or agent.

Q&A

Are there casting calls in British Columbia?
Yes, and Vancouver is one of the busiest production cities in North America. Disney shot Camp Rock 3, Coven Academy, Descendants: Wicked Wonderland and Percy Jackson and the Olympians season three in BC across 2025 and 2026, HBO filmed The Last of Us season three in Vancouver through 2026, and Netflix leases long-term stage space at Martini Film Studios.
How much do background actors get paid in Vancouver?
Differently from the United States. Performers in British Columbia are covered by UBCP/ACTRA, the BC branch of ACTRA, not by SAG-AFTRA, so American rate tables do not apply. Canadian casting notices generally post the rate for that specific role, and that posted figure is the one that applies to you.
Do I need to be Canadian to get cast in Vancouver?
You need the legal right to work in Canada — as a citizen, permanent resident, or holder of a valid work permit. Productions shoot in BC partly because hiring locally is cheaper than importing performers, so a Vancouver production will almost always choose an equally suitable local performer.
What shows film in Vancouver?
A large share of American streaming television. Recent examples include HBO's The Last of Us season three, which shot at Bridge Studios with downtown Vancouver doubling for Seattle, and much of Disney's teen and family slate. Productions also shoot across the Lower Mainland in Burnaby, Langley and Squamish.
Is Vancouver good for young performers?
It is one of the best markets in the world for it, because so much of Disney's young-cast slate shoots in British Columbia. Submissions for anyone under 18 must be made by a parent or legal guardian, and legitimate productions working with minors have compliance processes they will explain without being asked.
How do I become an extra in Vancouver?
Register with the background casting companies covering the Lower Mainland, keep a complete profile with current photos and accurate measurements, and apply to notices as they post. There is no audition and no experience requirement. Because series here shoot long runs, the same productions cast background repeatedly across a season.
Do I need an agent to get cast in British Columbia?
Not for background work, which needs no agent, no audition and no experience. Speaking roles go out through casting directors to representation, so an agent matters more as you move up — but the BC pool is far smaller than Los Angeles and casting directors here do look at new faces.
How do I avoid casting scams in Vancouver?
You never pay to register or audition. Watch for anyone offering to arrange a Canadian work permit for a fee, unexpected texts naming a real production, impersonation of casting directors through lookalike domains, requests for banking details before a signed booking, and — given how much youth casting happens here — any adult who wants to contact a young performer directly rather than through a parent.
