About the project: SYNOPSIS: Set in 1930 among Filipino migrant farmworkers in California, the piece requires actors who can handle heightened rhythm, ensemble storytelling, humor, physical labor, and emotional intimacy. Strong singing and movement ability are essential. Instrumental ability is a plus. The men function as individual characters, chorus, work crew, band of survivors, and collective memory. Rate: Off Broadway $867 weekly minimum (Cat. 2) Additional info: Audtion day break: 1:00PM - 2:00PM. PREPARATION: Please prepare a brief cut of a folk song or ballad, and a contemporary comedic monologue that shows range. An accompanist will be provided. Filipino. Baritone/Tenor. The cook, caretaker, and spiritual ballast of the bunkhouse. Amado understands that food is dignity. A strong character singer with warmth, timing, emotional gravity, and comfort with heightened theatricality if doubling as Dream/Fantasy Clarabelle.
Filipino. Bisaya. Tenor. Silent, observant, mysterious, and watchful. Ikong is a man of few words, but he sees everything. His stillness has weight. Tenor. A strong ensemble singer/mover with quiet intensity, excellent listening skills, and physical specificity. Facility with Bisaya/Cebuano language or accent work is a plus.
Alto A white woman from Arkansas who answers Magno’s lonely-hearts letters and travels to California after receiving money from him. Clarabelle is tired, hungry, frightened, calculating, and deeply compromised. She is not a simple villain. A strong singer with dramatic range, plainspoken intensity, and the ability to carry difficult moral ambiguity.
