ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE ACCEPTED. Seeking performers for "The Weight of a Dog" play. Please, see the details below. About the play: A man in his early 30s awakens in the middle of the night to find he has adopted a large, black dog of indeterminate breed. Before long The Dog begins to exact a psychological toll on Mike, separating him from his own life. He must navigate the disrupting effect of the dog on his life and relationship with his fiancee, and ultimately make a painful choice. Rate: Non-Union. Unpaid. Additonal information: A one-act play debuting at the Calgary Region One-Act Play Festival, April 1 – 4 2026. This is a one-act play with a running time of 30-40 minutes. Seeking three actors, as well as a stage manager and lighting/sound tech for the performance. Rehearsals will be Saturdays 1 – 3 pm from January 17 through March 28. Performers and crew will need to be available between Mar 31 and Apr 4. When applying, please submit your head shot and resume. This will be a mask performance with no lines, requiring a strong physical performance. Not looking for animal work necessarily, but of a hungry, dominating presence. Content: The roles of MIKE and LEAH may involve some intimacy. The play deals with themes of self-harm and mental illness.
