She waitresses and cooks at her mom's Chinese restaurant while secretly nurturing dreams of becoming a photographer. Torn between familial expectations and creative passion, Alex constantly walks the tightrope between loyalty and self-actualization.
A fiery, exacting matriarch who built the restaurant from nothing with her sister. Proud of her Chinese cultural heritage, she values stability, hard work, and “real jobs.” Her controlling and sharp-tongued demeanor stems from fear — fear of losing what she’s built and fear that her daughter will choose a life she cannot understand. Deep down, she loves Alex fiercely.
