About the project: A Filipino-Canadian folk body horror drama short film in-development under the Film and Theatre Department - University of British Columbia. Hati-Hati is about navigating love, migration, and otherness with caution and tenderness — where the heart and body itself is both fragile, care becomes a means for survival. Logline: A manananggal queer couple flees a calamity-stricken Philippines and starts a new life in the Pacific Northwest, but one of them still adjusting into their new form finds their torso missing in the unfamiliar landscape. Rate: Non-Union. Volunteer/Unpaid. Additional information: Shoot/Performance Date(s) March 13 to 15, 2026. Shoot/Performance Location(s) Vancouver. Submission Deadline November 19, 2025. Filipino (Fluency in Tagalog or other Filipino regional languages/dialects is preferred). Transmasculine or gender-diverse. Open to non-binary, gender-nonconforming, and trans actors. Recently transformed into a manananggal through their partner, Rosing, Yolanda is still navigating what it means to exist as one. In Canada, their hunger, moods, and instincts begin to shift. While hunting, they feel the urge to detach but are unable to.

ROSINGMale20-30 y.o.Asian

Filipino (Fluency in Tagalog or other Filipino regional languages/dialects is preferred). Femme-presenting. Open to non-binary, gender-nonconforming, and trans actors. Rosing works in the healthcare sector at an abortion clinic in a small town in BC. As a teen, she was turned into a manananggal by a doctor who saved her life after the loss of her premature baby. She longs for a family of her own.

MAYABoth genders25-35 y.o.All ethnicities

Indigenous. Two-spirit. Open to non-binary, gender-nonconforming, and trans actors. Belonging to any nations or other non–North American Indigenous communities are encouraged to apply. Sitka becomes Rosing’s supervisor in a small clinic in rural BC. Maya is accomplished and worked as a doctor. Trustworthy and offered a place of support when Rosing is in a dire situation to find a way to survive in Canada.
