When Shannon leaves for college, she has to make a tearful goodbye to family and friends, including her boyfriend Zach, who is conflicted on her departure. Meanwhile, Barry, her father, is working with Thomas, Zach's uncle, to make sure her she gets on her flight in time. Emilia, Shannon's best friend, has to balance helping Shannon get to the airport and getting back in time for an job interview with Shannon's mother: Amy. (lead), business casual. A businessman who works alongside Thomas. He is on his lunch break with Barry when a workplace emergency (the flight delay) has them working at their table. He is Shannon’s father and Amy’s husband. Shannon leaving for college is something he’s having trouble accepting. Goals: Solve the workplace emergency, say goodbye to Shannon.
(supporting): (same as Zach),messy business casual. A more tired salaryman who works alongside Barry. He’s eager for retirement and enjoys his own company. Sometimes Barry tags along for lunch. Thomas tolerates him. When the flight delay has Barry and him working, he is quite frustrated. He is Zach’s uncle. When Zach comes to him for advice on how to handle Shannon leaving, he tries to help. Goals: Solve the workplace emergency, give Zach advice.
(lead): Gen Z attire. Zach has gained a reputation as “Shannon’s boyfriend” and lived in her shadow. When Shannon reveals she’s leaving for college, he’s simultaneously saddened and excited. These feelings confuse him as they talk about where their relationship is going. He is friends with Emilia. Goal: Decide whether or not to break up with Shannon.
(lead): Gen Z attire. Shannon is Zach’s girlfriend and a very popular girl in their shared friend circles and communities. She is leaving for college soon and feeling depressed that she’ll leave all her friends and family behind. She is friends with Emilia. Goals: Say goodbye to her parents, friends, and especially Zach, get on the flight in time.
(supporting): Gen Z attire. Emilia is one of Shannon and Zach’s friends. She is anxiously applying for a job working under Amy. She takes Shannon to the airport, but the flight delay means she might not make it to her interview in time. Goal: Take Amy to the airport, get back in time for the interview, get the job.
(supporting), workplace casual. Shannon’s mother and Barry’s husband. She is more accepting of Shannon leaving than Barry is and has to comfort her husband. She is a recruiter for a large company and interviewing Emilia for a position at their company. Goals: Comfort Barry, interview Emilia.
