Jane is an independent woman trying to balance work, marriage and family expectation. She loves her mother so much but often feels emotionally burdened by her guilt-inducing communication. Her emotional fatigue often keeps her from seeing her motherʼs silent needs. She struggles to set a healthy boundary.

Mei is a devoted and emotionally intense mother who has spent most of her life centering her world around her daughter. Sheʼs practical and likes to express love through acts of services such as preparing food. Since her daughter got married and moved out, Mei struggles with a sense of abandonment. Recently she is going through menopause and her emotions are heightened, but she often masks her vulnerability with passive-aggressive silence.

The father is passive and emotionally distant. In this household, he rarely takes initiatives or involves himself in family affairs. He tends to avoid conflicts by hiding behind a newspaper or the TV. He seldom helps with chores and usually leaves all domestic and emotional responsibilities to Mei.
