About the project: The holiday classic soars off the screen in this musical adaptation of the beloved 1964 television special. Filled with holiday hits like “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” and “A Holly Jolly Christmas,” Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer features all of your favorite characters, including Santa and Mrs. Claus, Hermey the Elf, Bumble the Abominable Snow Monster, Clarice, Yukon Cornelius,s and, of course, Rudolph. Additional info: Prepare a one-minute Broadway selection using an instrumental (karaoke-style) track, played from a digital device (e.g., phone). In addition to your chosen song, you will be asked to sing scales that match the vocal range of the character(s) you’re auditioning for. If you’re unsure how to do this, don’t worry-directors will guide you through it. Select roles will read dialogue from the script; use of character voice(s) is encouraged during your reading. Readings are attached. To help with preparation, directors recommend watching the 1964 Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer animation as a reference for tone and character style. A knowing sense of humor; an appealing, warm singing voice. As the narrator, the audience should understand every word Sam says. Strong diction is expected and necessary for this important role.
Vocal range top: D5 Vocal range bottom: A#3 Lead. Tenor/Alto. A young buck. Youthful; physically agile; winning performer; vulnerable but strong; a solid singer. This lovable misfit struggles to fit in due to his glowing, red nose. Actor/actress must be able to embody the emotional heart of the story.
Vocal range top: D5 Vocal range bottom: G#3 Lead. Tenor. A bit of an odd elf. Charmingly apologetic, but with inner strength. Strong comic sensibility; must move and sing well and have a strong character voice.

Due to plot-essential lines, the individual cast in this role may not be heavyset. Requires a more mature actor with a great stage presence who can act, dance a bit, carry a tune, and completely embody this significant character role
Supporting Lead. Tenor/Baritone. Rudolph’s father and a proud member of the team who pulls Santa’s sleigh on Christmas Eve. Physically agile; tougher on the outside than he is on the inside. Donner must be a strong actor and does not sing a solo. May be double-cast as Boss Elf.
Vocal range top: C5 Vocal range bottom: B3 Supporting Lead. Soprano. A young doe who takes a liking to Rudolph in spite of his glowing, red nose. She is kind to him and even goes to look for him after he runs away. Youthful; physically agile. Strong, willful, loving, flirtatious; must have a lilting pure soprano voice. The actress must be able to portray Clarice’s kindness, patience, and gumption.

Tall, large man who must read mid-40s; slightly absent-minded; physically agile and strong comedic ability. Must have a strong character voice. Commanding stage presence. Ability to make strong character choices. Willingness to chew the scenery is a plus.

Ensemble. A grown buck, paternally protective of Clarice. Clarice’s Father has important lines and does not sing a solo. May be double cast from an Ensemble role.
