"Raisin" the Musical Needs Singers who Act

Rate: SPT $538 weekly minimum (SPT 5) Additional info: PREPARATION Please prepare one song and one monologue. An accompanist will be provided. Also, bring your headshot and resume stapled together. First Rehearsal: August 4, 2025 Opening: September 3, 2025 Closing: September 21, 2025 An Equity Monitor will not be provided. The producer will run all aspects of this audition. B2-A4, bari-tenor. Father to Travis, husband to Ruth, and son of Lena. Stubborn, energetic, and strong willed, he loves his family and strives for what he considers a better life. Is at odds with his mother over the use of his late father’s insurance money and wants to open a liquor store to so that he doesn’t have to drive a limo anymore. Ultimately, he chooses to stand up in the face prejudice to change the course of the family’s life.
G3-C5, alto. The matriarch of the Younger family. With pride and hope, she cares for her family and wants to use the insurance money to purchase a new family home in the white neighborhood of Clybourne Park. Is sometimes at odds with her children but loves them fervently.
A3-E5, mezzo-soprano. Walter’s wife and Travis’s mom. Takes care to keep her house upright both literally and emotionally. She is a calming presence among the members of the family but has dreams of her own. Spars with her husband but loves him deeply.
Bb3-D5, mezzo-soprano. Walter’s younger sister and Lena’s daughter. Studying to be a doctor and longs to leave the family home to have her own space and life. Wooed by Joseph Asagai.
Bb2-D4, baritone. A student from Africa studying in Chicago. An engaging suitor who entices Beneatha with talk of his homeland.
A representative from the Clybourne Park neighborhood association. Visits the Youngers to try to buy them out and preclude the family from moving.
Eb3-F4, bari-tenor. A friend of Walter's. Intends to start a business with Walter and Willie Harris. (Will also be a member of the ensemble.)
B2-Eb4. A friend of Walter's. A slick sort, who seemingly intends to start a business with Walter and Bobo but steals their money instead. (Will also be a member of the ensemble.)
B3-C#5. A neighborhood busybody who solos in the large church number. Lives with the Youngers. (Will also be a member of the ensemble.)
B3-Eb5. The proprietress of the neighborhood bar. Enjoys palling around with the customers. (Will also be a member of the ensemble.)
Tenor/gospel. Church preacher. Solos in the large church number. (Will also be a member of the ensemble.)
