Dancers Wanted for "Kiss Me, Kate" Show
Seeking talent for "Kiss Me, Kate" show. Full details below. ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE ACCEPTED. Additional info: Auditionees will be asked to prepare 32 bars of a song for the audition. Performers should bring a backing track to connect by Bluetooth. Everyone should also be prepared to come ready to move with energy. You will be taught a theatre jazz combo and tap combo to then perform. Jazz shoes and/or heels and tap shoes are preferred but not required. Cold readings will take place during callbacks which will be slated for the same week as auditions. Please keep this in mind when choosing a song to perform and learning the dance combinations at auditions. The audition team will be looking to see how you embody your character (your acting choices) during the song and how you “sell” the dance. Rehearsals will begin mid-to-late June. Vocal Range: Baritone (B2 – G4) A charming, egotistical actor and director starring as Petruchio. He’s Lilli’s ex-husband and still holds feelings for her, though he hides them under bravado and wit. Needs strong comedic timing and presence.
Vocal Range: Soprano (B3 – A5) A strong-willed, talented leading lady with operatic chops. Fred’s ex-wife who plays Katharine. Her fiery temper and pride match Katharine’s, creating comedic and romantic tension. Requires strong classical singing and acting.
Vocal Range: Mezzo-Soprano (F4 – F5 or higher with belt) A flirtatious, bubbly nightclub performer with big ambitions. Dating Bill, but has wandering eyes. As Bianca, she’s playful and coquettish. Needs comic charm and a jazzy vocal style.
Vocal Range: Tenor (C3 – G4) A good-hearted but irresponsible gambler and performer. Loves Lois but keeps messing things up. As Lucentio, he’s a love-struck suitor. Needs energy, charisma, and strong dance skills.
(The Gangsters): Vocal Range: Baritone (C3 – F4) Two comedic gangsters who get involved in the show due to a gambling debt. They pretend to be actors, bringing loads of slapstick and witty wordplay. Great roles for comic actors with timing and rhythm for “Brush Up Your Shakespeare.”
Vocal Range: Mezzo-Soprano (C4 – D5) Lilli’s dresser and confidante. Appears in the opening number, “Another Op’nin’, Another Show.” Needs strong vocals and personality.
Vocal Range: Tenor or Bari-tenor (C3 – G4) Fred’s dresser and part of the ensemble. Leads the number “Too Darn Hot.” Needs strong dance ability and charisma.
Spoken Role (or optional baritone singing) Lilli’s pompous and patriotic fiancé. Not a large singing role but requires strong comedic delivery and presence.
