Casting Call for "Romeo & Juliet" Stage Play
Performers wanted for the "Romeo & Juliet" play. Please see the details below. ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE ACCEPTED. About the project: Romeo & Juliet by William Shakespeare is the classic, yet tragic tale of two young lovers from feuding families. In 1880 deep in the Appalachian Mountains, Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet fall deeply in love and secretly marry. Facilitated by a man of god, the lovers experience a fate marked with wild passion and devastating loss. The world of both families are rocked by the long grudge held by generations new and old. In the end, the couple’s love brings the family together only after their tragic end. Additional info: Based on your desired characters, you will read from the sides of the script with other actors to show skill/talent/energy. When actors are finished reading, all potential performers will sing. (Optional) Any actors who play a musical instrument and who brought them may play a song. As needed Audition/Callback date will be May 28th @ 6:30 pm Tech Week for the production starts Sunday, July 27th, and goes through July 30th. Production Dates are Thursday through Sunday - July 31st @ 6:00 pm, August 1st-2nd @ 6:00 pm, and August 3rd @ 2 pm. If interested, please apply.

Romeo is the only child of Lord and Lady Montague. When we first meet him, he believes he is in love with Rosaline, but then he meets Juliet at a party. They instantly fall in love and are married in secret the next day.
The daughter of Capulet and Lady Capulet. She has yet to be introduced to society and intends to obey her parents’ wishes. Juliet begins the play as a naIve child who has thought little about love and marriage, but she grows up quickly upon falling in love with Romeo, the son of her family's great enemy.
A Christian pastor, friend to both Romeo and Juliet. Kind, civic-minded, a proponent of moderation, and always ready with a plan, he wants peace between the Montagues and Capulets.
A kinsman to the Prince, and Romeo's close friend. Mercutio overflows with imagination, wit, and, at times, a strange, biting satire and brooding fervor. Mercutio loves wordplay. He can be quite hotheaded, and hates people who are affected, pretentious, or obsessed with the latest fashions.
The Nurse is a servant in the Capulet household and has looked after Juliet since she was a baby. She is trusted within the Capulet household. She is trusted by Juliet who confides in her.
Lord Capulet is the head of one of the noble families of Verona, the Capulets. Often prudent, he commands respect and propriety, but he is liable to fly into a rage when either is lacking. He truly loves his daughter, though he is not well acquainted with Juliet's thoughts or feelings.
A woman who herself married young. She gave birth to Juliet when she was only a few years older than Juliet is at the start of the play. She is (technically) younger than her husband.
Benvolio is Romeo’s cousin. He is trusted by Romeo’s parents who turn to him when they are not sure what is wrong with their son. He believes he has a good relationship with Romeo.
A Capulet, Juliet's cousin on her mother's side. Vain, fashionable, supremely aware of courtesy and the lack of it, he becomes aggressive, violent, and quick to draw his sword when he feels his pride has been injured. Once drawn, his sword is something to be feared. He loathes Montagues.
The Head of Verona’s government. He is concerned about maintaining the public peace at all costs.
A kinsman of the Prince, and the suitor of Juliet most preferred by Capulet. He is neutral in the feud between Capulet and Montague.
