Casting Call for "Antigone: The Burial at Thebes" Play
Seeking talent for "Antigone: The Burial at Thebes" show. Please see the details below. ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE ACCEPTED. Additional info: Auditions and callbacks will take place at Virginia-Highland Church. There is street parking available around the church and available across the street at the elementary school. The entrance to auditions is on the right side of the building. Signs will be posted outside the side door. Walk-ins will be worked in time-permitting. Kindly bring a copy of your headshot and resume. Prepare a one-minute monologue or read a monologue from the show. REHEARSAL SCHEDULE - Rehearsals will be held at Virginia-Highland Church. Free parking is available across the street at VaHi Elementary School in the main parking lot. We will likely be rehearsing on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays in the evenings. Exact rehearsal times to be decided once cast conflicts have been collected and reviewed. King of Thebes, brother of Jocasta, and uncle to Antigone, Ismene, Eteocles, and Polynices. Proud and resolute ruler who prioritizes the authority of the state above all else. His adherence to his decree and his refusal to heed counsel lead to his own ruin.
Daughter of Oedipus and Jocasta. Fiercely independent. Devoted to her family and the laws of the gods. She is willing to defy Creon's decree to ensure her brother Polynices receives a proper burial.
Daughter of Oedipus and Jocasta, and Antigone's sister. More cautious and fearful of authority than Antigone - for good reason. She initially refuses to help Antigone bury Polynices, but later tries to share the blame.
Son of Creon and Eurydice, and betrothed to Antigone. He respects his father's authority but will he side with Antigone and the will of the people? His love for Antigone–his despair over her death–seals his (and his family’s) fate.
A blind prophet with the gift of foresight. Respected for his wisdom, he warns Creon of the gods' displeasure and the consequences of his actions.
Wife of Creon and mother of Haemon. A queen who is deeply affected by the tragic deaths of her son and Antigone. Her final words ring.
A common soldier tasked with guarding Polyneices' body. He is fearful of Creon's wrath but brings news of the burial and later captures Antigone. Also, he’s got jokes.
