Theater Auditions for "Cyrano de Bergerac" Play
ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE ACCEPTED. The production of "Cyrano de Bergerac" is currently in search of performers. See the details below. About the play: A freewheeling verse adaptation of Edmond Rostand’s classic play, set in the Paris of 1640. Intellectually brilliant and physically ugly, Cyrano de Bergerac stands alone in a city of self-indulgence, corruption, and romance. 10 roles
He/him. Poet, swordsman, writer, philosopher, and soldier. Despite his charm and unrivaled wit, his insecurities make him believe that true love may always be out of reach. Physically ugly and deeply angry. His rage is both ferocious and eloquent. NOTE: this role requires advanced experience in stage fighting (sword).
She/her. Despite being the object of many admirers, she’s a woman who somewhat defies the expectations of Parisian society. Fiercely intelligent, deeply frustrated, and trapped. Holding out hope for a true love story and an equal partnership. Think steel wrapped in velvet.
He/him. A young man who just arrived in Paris and falls in love with Roxanne. His handsomeness instantly draws attention, but his feelings for Roxanne are sincere and pure. Good-hearted, brave, and deeply well-intentioned. (The actor playing Christian also plays Cadet 3.)
He/him. Rich, conceited, self-centered – the man who has everything… except Roxanne. Willing to do whatever it takes to get his way, and to use those around him as pawns in his quest for control. Deep down, he is probably very sensitive. But it’s VERY deep down, under layers of privilege, arrogance, and extremely big sleeves.
She/her. The widowed owner of a small cafe. Embodies the wisdom of ages with the spirit of someone who has weathered both joy and sorrow. An intense lover of poetry. Generous to a fault. (The actor playing Ragueneau also plays Cadet 5 [he/him], the Medic [he/him], and the Theatre Manager.)
He/him. Captain of the cadets and a close friend of Cyrano. Often the voice of reason. Brave, intelligent. (The actor playing le Bret also plays the Usher.)
She/her. Mme. Ragueneau’s assistant. Young and excitable. (The actor playing Kate also plays Cadet 2 [he/him] and the Orange Seller.)
She/her. Roxanne’s maid/companion/chaperone. Cloaked in mystery with a palpable danger about her. She’s the person you’d want to have on your side… unless you’ve seen something you weren’t supposed to. (The actor playing Marie also plays Cadet 4 [he/him].
He/him. Valvert: just the worst. Typical aristocratic bully. NOTE: this role requires advanced experience in stage fighting (sword). Priest: a bumbling messenger. (The actor playing Valvert/Priest also plays Cadet 1.)
He/him. Lignière: a poet with a drinking problem and many powerful enemies. Montfleury: an untalented actor who Cyrano has banned from the stage. Carbon: a lieutenant of the cadets. Short temper.
