"The Pirates of Penzance" Musical Needs Performers
Strong need for adult actors/singers/dancers in upcoming production of "The Pirates of Penzance". ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE CONSIDERED. See more info below. Additional info: Please prepare a 16-32 bar selection of a song that shows off your voice–operetta, opera, or classical musical theatre preferred. Bring sheet music–an accompanist will be provided. Callbacks: Tuesday, April 29, 2025, 6:30PM. Call backs are by invitation only. Rehearsals begin Sunday, May 18th. Rehearsals are Sunday to Thursday from 6:30pm - 9:30pm. Dress Rehearsals are the week of June 14. **Please note that this schedule is subject to change based on availability of actors.** Performances: July 17-August 10 2025. Bold, charismatic leader, somewhat sentimental about duty and his past, capable of both fierce authority and surprising naiveté regarding legal technicalities. Leader of the Pirate band. Vocal Range: G2-G4, strong, commanding vocal presence needed.
Age: 21 (though often played by someone slightly older to convey romantic lead presence). Dutiful (almost to a fault), honorable, initially naive due to his isolated upbringing, falls deeply in love, struggles with his conflicting obligations. Apprenticed to the Pirate King. Falls in love with Mabel. Vocal Range: Tenor (C3-Bb5, lyric quality, capable of both passionate and earnest delivery).
Loyal sidekick to the Pirate King, a bit more grounded and less flamboyant than his leader. Lieutenant in the Pirate band. Vocal Range: Bass-Baritone (G2-G4, solid, supportive vocal presence).
Senior Pirate (often played with a more exaggerated age for comedic effect). Alto/Mezzo-Soprano. Needs a strong lower register and the ability to sing with dramatic and comedic intent, and ability to deliver lines and physical comedy effectively. Once she sets her mind on something (namely Frederic), she is incredibly persistent and unwilling to let go. She knowingly lies to Frederic about her age and his apprenticeship to keep him with her. Vocal Range: Alto/Mezzo-Soprano (F3-F5)
Father to Mabel, Edith, Kate, Isabel, and their sisters. No romantic relationships depicted within the play. Pompous, self-important, surprisingly cowardly when faced with danger, ultimately a loving (if somewhat overbearing) father. Vocal Range: High Baritone/Lyric Baritone (Bb2-E4, needs excellent diction and ability to handle patter songs with speed and clarity).
Sweet, innocent, romantic, courageous in her. love for Frederic, playful and supportive of her sisters. Daughter of Major-General Stanley. Falls in love with Frederic. Vocal Range: Soprano (C4-Eb6, high lyric soprano with agility and a bright tone).
Sensible, supportive of Mabel, perhaps a bit more grounded than her younger sisters. Daughter of Major-General Stanley. Vocal Range: Mezzo-Soprano (Ab3-G5, warm, supportive vocal quality).
