About the project: Synopsis: A charming Master of Ceremonies welcomes you to step into the Kit Kat Klub, a decadent Berlin nightclub, as the 1920s come to a close and the Weimar Republic yields to the growing threat of fascism. Cabaret follows Cliff, a young American writer who becomes enamored with Sally Bowles, an English singer. As their relationship progresses, Fräulein Schneider, the proprietor of their boarding house, embarks on a romance with Herr Schultz, a mild mannered fruit seller who happens to be Jewish. The dazzling façade of the Kit Kat Klub masks the growing threat of fascism, and the characters' lives become intertwined with the fate of a nation. With its iconic musical numbers and poignant social commentary, Cabaret explores the fragility of freedom and the seductive allure of escapism and complicity in a world on the precipice of darkness. Rate: Non-paid production. Additional info: WHAT TO PREPARE: Vocal Audition: Prepare a 16-32 bar cut of a musical theater piece in the style of the show. There will be no accompanist so you may choose to sing acapella or with a track on your phone. Acting Audition: Select one of the audition monologues from the audition packet attached to prepare. You do not need to be memorized and may bring the monologue with you. Callbacks (by invitation only): Saturday, May 31, 2025 (11am-3pm). Callbacks: Callbacks will consist of a dance audition, vocal cuts from the show, and cold reads. Vocal material will be provided in advance. Schedule: Rehearsals take place weekday evenings and some weekend afternoons. A schedule will be created and released after casting. Load-in/Cue-to-Cue: Sunday, August 17 (1pm-10pm) Tech: Monday, August 18-Thursday August 21 (6pm-11pm) Performances: Friday, August 22 (Call: 6pm, Curtain: 8pm), Saturday August 23 (Matinee: Call: 12pm, Curtain 6pm; Evening: Call: 6pm, Curtain 8PM), Sunday August 23 (Call: 1pm, Curtain: 2pm) Strike: August 23 (end of show-10pm) *All Actors are expected to be available to attend to assist with load-in and strike. RANGE: C3-G4. The host at the Kit Kat Klub – playful, provocative, and charismatic, but a darkly prophetic figure. They embody decadence, escapism, complicity, and the dark tendencies of humankind. Is the embodiment of the German people and the mob mentality that enabled the rise of the Third Reich.
RANGE: E3-C5. A charismatic and free-spirited British cabaret singer at the Kit Kat Klub. She is eccentric, charming, and vivacious with a deep longing for love and success. Sally has a magnetic stage presence but under the facade, she struggles with personal instability and a growing dissonance with the changing world around her.
RANGE: C#3-E4. An American Novelist and English teacher travelling to Berlin, Cliff arrives with the exuberance and optimism of a young artist but leaves disillusioned by Berlin's changing political climate.
RANGE: D3-F#4. A seemingly friendly and likeable German man who befriends and takes English lessons from Cliff. It is revealed at the end of Act I that he smuggles funds for the Nazi party.
RANGE: EB3-B4. The older proprietor of the apartment housing where Cliff rents a room. She is alone and resigned to her place in life and believes in making pragmatic choices over romantic ideals.
