Singing Audition for "Looking Back" Play
Auditions for "Looking Back" play. Casting men/women. Please see the breakdown below. ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE ACCEPTED. About the project: Plot Synopsis: Looking Back is an original science fiction musical with R&B, jazz, and rock music, written by Perri Webb. The story follows Rebecca Mitchell, a CFO whose history of back-stabbing her co-workers finally catches up with her when her former best friend AJ attempts to murder her for ruining his life. Right before he can kill her, everything freezes in time- except for Rebecca. The character "It" arrives to guide Rebecca as her life flashes before her eyes. On this journey, she sees her life unfold before her- including her rise up the company ladder at the cost of her friendship with AJ. Additional info: Everyone auditioning should prepare to sing a song (around 30-60 seconds), read lines from the script, and dance to choreography taught at auditions. Please sing your song with a track (played from your phone) or sing a cappella. There is no need to bring sheet music. There is also no need to memorize anything prior to auditions. Please wear tennis shoes or dance shoes that will stay on your feet. Each audition will last about 1 hour 15 minutes (45 for music/acting, 30 for dance). You will be dismissed after the choreography portion. 12 roles
CFO with a history of selfishness whose life flashes before her eyes. Stubborn, ambitious, confident, and two-faced. In the past, she was eager and hopeful, but her desperation to succeed clouded her judgement, leading her to betray the people she loved most. (Vocal Range: Mezzo. E3 - C#5 - D#5)
Guides Rebecca through her life and memories, trying to provide Rebecca with perspective. Firm, knowledgeable, and sauve with a flair for the dramatic. (Vocal Range: Alto. F#3 - C#5)
Rebecca’s former best friend who was recently released from prison who attempts to murder Rebecca for ruining his life. In the past, he was high-spirited and goofy, but when his mother falls ill, his life takes a turn for the worse and he becomes exhausted, desperate, and reckless. (Vocal Range: Baritone/Tenor. Range is somewhat flexible.)
Former friend and co-worker to Rebecca and AJ. Fun, caring, assertive, and fiercely loyal. Unlike Rebecca and AJ, work is nowhere near her top priority. (Vocal Range: Alto. A#3 - C#5)
Function, Emotion, and Belief– three muses who function as a Greek chorus to vocalize Beck and AJ’s inner thoughts. Dramatic and fierce. Can only be seen by Rebecca and It, the latter serving as their leader. They sing over half of the songs in the musical– often in three-part harmonies– so strong harmony singing is a must. Must be dancers or strong movers.
A polite, mild-mannered executive who later becomes the president of the board of directors. (Vocal Range: Baritone. B2 - B3)
A rowdy executive with a knack for gossiping who later joins the board of directors. (Vocal Range: Baritone. B2 - B3)
A zany executive with a knack for gossiping who later joins the board of directors. (Vocal Range: Alto. B3 - B4)
A cold, strict board member who was once AJ and Beck’s boss. Quick to anger. (Vocal Range: Baritone. B2 - B3)
