About the project: Synopsis: In the seedy and electrifying Kit Kat Club of 1930s Berlin, the world teeters on the brink of chaos. The enigmatic Emcee welcomes the audience into a world of decadence, where performers dazzle, and reality is blurred by the club’s intoxicating allure. At the heart of the story is Clifford Bradshaw, an American writer searching for inspiration, who finds himself entangled with the captivating Sally Bowles, a British singer whose charm masks a life of uncertainty. As their relationship unfolds, the looming rise of fascism begins to cast an ominous shadow over their lives and the once-carefree club. Meanwhile, an older couple, Herr Schultz and Fraulein Schneider, navigate a doomed romance, their love threatened by the terrifying political climate. As Berlin descends into darkness, the glittering escapism of the Kit Kat Club can no longer hide the horrifying reality closing in. Cabaret forces us to confront the consequences of complacency, the fragility of freedom, and the cost of ignoring the world outside. Debut Theatre Company’s production of Cabaret reimagines this classic with raw intensity, immersive storytelling, and a focus on the show’s urgent themes of resistance, identity, and the dangers of apathy. In a time when history threatens to repeat itself, we ask: What happens when we look away? “Willkommen. Bienvenue. Welcome.” Rate: As a non-profit community theatre organization, they do not offer stipends or travel accommodations. Additional info: Auditions will begin in a virtual format. Note: All vocal ranges are approximate. What to bring to an audition: - A headshot and resume - A list of all possible conflicts from the day of the audition to the day of the final show Callbacks will be taking place in-person May 24th and 25th upon invitation. Rehearsals begin early June. To take place Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday evenings and Sunday afternoons. Performances: August 15-17th, 2025. Note: there is a production fee. If you would like to be considered for a specific role, you are encouraged to use a song from the show. All audition submissions will be due no later than 5:00 PM on Sunday, May 11th.

An American novelist and English teacher traveling to Berlin. Through his journey he explores the many facets and complexities of his sexuality, politics, and artistic goals. A landlady who rents rooms to Cliff, Sally, and several other characters in her large flat. She is alone and is resigned to her place in life, but secretly longs for companionship. She is very critical of some people while looking the other way with others; comfortable with stage movement and light dance (waltz). Must act and sing well; comfortable with moments of intimacy. A Jewish fruit shop owner who falls in love with Fraulein Schneider; sweet, lovable, and adoring; heartbreakingly naïve about the political turmoil in Germany.
