About the project: Inspired by Motown and R&B legends of the 1960s-70s, Dreamgirls follows the rising stardom of the Dreamettes, an all-girl singing trio from Chicago. The three best the phenomenally talented, but demanding Effie White, the beautiful and appealing Deena Jones and the eager, romantic Lorrell Robinson-team up with driven, demanding manager Curtis Taylor, who is determined to see their (and his) star rise. As their careers begin to take off, changes are made to ensure their mass appeal to the pop market. Egos are bruised, tempers flare and hearts are broken in pursuit of stardom. Additional info: See the attachment for audition materials. CALLBACKS Wednesday, March 5th. By directors' invitation only. This list will be posted on ALT's homepage at noon on 3/5/25. Please note that not every character will require a callback. Not receiving a callback does not necessarily mean you will not be cast, nor does receiving a callback guarantee you will be cast. REHEARSAL PERIOD March 10, 2025 - April 30, 2025 7:00-10:00 pm, Monday - Thursday. Afternoons on Saturdays and Sundays are also a possibility for choreography/blocking rehearsal. (Directors will distribute detailed rehearsal schedules for all actors.) PERFORMANCES May 1-18, 2025 Thursday shows at 7:30 pm, Friday and Saturday shows at 8:00 pm, and Sunday shows at 2:30 pm. Embodies both innocence and star power. Mezzo, big full belt voice.

Her journey from snappy confidence to depths of betrayal ultimately ends in triumph.

C.C. WHITEBoth genders20-29 y.o.African-American

(Male presenting) Effie's songwriting younger brother. Idealistic, loyal, endearing and soft-spoken. While initially inspired by Curtis's business savvy, his efforts to do the right thing are ultimately eclipsed by Curtis' controlling vision. Goes through the journey of losing and regaining himself.

MICHELLE MORRISBoth genders20-39 y.o.African-American

(Female presenting) Replacement for Effie. A Dynamic singer/performer that better fits into Curtis aesthetic for The Dreams. Headstrong and sure of her place. Falls in love with C.C. and facilitates the reunion of him and his sister, Effie. JAMES THUNDER EARLY: (African American, Male presenting. Age 30s 40s) Self-proclaimed King of Soul. A chart-topping and dynamic performer. A sexy, high-energy star full of flash, charisma and pizazz.

CURTIS TAYLOR JRBoth genders20-49 y.o.African-American

(Male presenting) Former Cadillac dealer turned entertainment manager, turned music mogul. Charming, funny. handsome, smooth and seductive but ruthless in the pursuit of his dreams. He is motivated by his hunger for mainstream success, an appreciation for crossover music and keen business mind. Takes over the management of Jimmy Early's career and oversees the rise to stardom of The Dreams. Initially warm and approachable, he becomes hardened by wealth, power and control.

(Male presenting) NON-SINGING. Street savvy, long-time manager of Jimmy's career and the one to clean up after his mistakes. Represents an earlier age of African American entertainment, honest and loyal, never overstepping his bounds. At odds with Curtis and his ideas and schemes. Later oversees Effie's comeback.
