Singing Audition in a Dramedy Musical "Apothecary"
ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE ACCEPTED. Directors are currently in need of singers for musical "Apothecary". More details are below. About the musical: Creators of the award-winning Canadian dramedy musical, “Every Silver Lining”, Laura Piccinin and Allison Wither present a new musical exploring women’s experiences in medicine from time immemorial. “Apothecary” tells the story of a magical and timeless sanctuary for all women in need, no matter when they’re from. Rate: Will be working under CAEA’s Festival Policy and payment will be profit-share. A minimum of $300 per person is expected. Additional information: callbacks on March 2nd, 2025, time TBD. Actors will prepare 1 scene from the show (sent upon invitation to audition) and 1 song of your choice. Actors are encouraged to accompany themselves on any instrument if possible. Rehearsal and performance dates: Rehearsals will take place various days between June 12th and June 29th, with a 1-day tech rehearsal (date TBD) between June 25th-July 2nd, 2025. Performances (7) will take place July 2nd-13th as part of the Toronto Fringe Festival. PLEASE INDICATE which role(s) (max 2) you would like to audition for in the subject of your email submission. (era: 1970s) Vocal type: Mezzo-Soprano/Belter (think Stevie Nicks) (soloist). Apprentice to Lady and the Apothecary. Stubborn, passionate, and on a difficult journey to learn to carry burden.
(era: 1960s) Vocal type: High Alto (soloist). Southern housewife, newly pregnant. She sees all the women of the Apothecary.
(era: 1890s) written as Eastern European but open to any immigrant to North America. An immigrant arriving by boat to North America who has contracted an eye infection that will result in her immediate deportation.
(era: 1940’s) North or South American, Vocal type: Mezzo-Soprano (soloist). Struggling with mental illness, she is betrayed by her doctor during ECT therapies.
(era: 1830s). Struggling with an unidentified illness (Endometriosis), Marie Anne grapples with how to become a perfect woman in order to heal.
(era: 1810s) Vocal type: Alto (soloist). In love with her childhood best friend (Grace), Frances finds freedom in hiding.
(era: pre-1800s) After losing a finger to garden shears, she makes an unlikely friend in healing. (It’s a leech)
(era: 1820s) In an abusive relationship, Eleanor seeks a quiet revenge.
(era: 1820s) The first man to enter the Apothecary. An actor/musician is strongly desired.
