About the project: Inspired by the memoirs of burlesque artist Gypsy Rose Lee, Gypsy tells the story of “Mama” Rose, an overbearing stage mother attempting to thrust her two daughters into stardom on a dying vaudeville circuit. We meet daughters June and Louise as children and follow the development of their act as they become adults, where June is the star, while the shy Louise plays a background role. When June runs off with one of the chorus boys, Rose decides to make Louise a star in her own right. Through unlikely means, Louise finds her identity as a performer. She adopts the stage name Gypsy Rose Lee and breaks free of her mother’s expectations, leaving Rose to deal with the fallout alone. Additional info: Please prepare 32 bars of music in the style of Gypsy. You may prepare sheet music for our accompanist (preferred) or an instrumental track. Additionally, you must prepare an audition side–linked here. You may be asked to read for additional characters, so please familiarize yourself with all sides of your preferred gender. Your side does not need to be memorized, but you should be confident and comfortable. Please arrive at least 10 minutes prior to your time slot to check in. Please apply if interested.

Lead. Baby Louise as a teen/young adult, who grows up to be Gypsy Rose Lee. Still pushed aside by Madam Rose in favor of June, until she herself becomes her mother's new pet project. Must be able to portray both the awkward teen and a sophisticated woman we know now as Gypsy Rose Lee. Must dance inside a dancing cow costume, must be comfortable with the character's profession - stripping. The character is very scantily clad but never actually appears in the nude. Vocal Range: G3-E5
Supporting. Searching for an individual to play Baby June as a teen/young adult. Talented and frustrated with Rose's domination. Good dancing skills, splits, & strong mix/belt are a must. Vocal Range: G3-F5
Supporting. Searching for an individual, the head of the Newsboys/Farm Boys. Extremely strong dancer, singer. Sings "All I Need Is The Girl". Dreams of having his own act. Vocal Range: C3-G5
Featured. A stripper, just past her prime, big Broadway voice, strong movement. A Burlesque dancer that shares her dressing room with Louise, she was once a ballerina and still has some of the moves. Sings "You Gotta Get a Gimmick." Vocal Range: B3-D5
Featured. An experienced and wise stripper, ditzy & sweet. Specialty - Light Bulb stripper. Sings "You Gotta Get a Gimmick." Vocal Range: G3-E5 *
