About the project: Let’s Get That Ego Death is a student short film that follows the exploits of Igor, who runs a successful pharmacy with his wife Maggie. Maggie desperately wants to have children, but due to repressed childhood trauma, Igor doesn’t feel he is ready. When a former lover of Maggie’s, Jack, arrives and starts chatting up Maggie, Igor decides he needs a transformation. After seeing a TV game show in which contestants ingest psychedelic drugs to “put their fate in the hands of a higher power'', Igor makes the decision to finally face his traumas, experiencing an ego-shattering, life-changing trip. After giving up his dreams of being a rockstar, Igor is now a successful pharmacist who can’t get his wife pregnant. Held back by childhood trauma, he doesn’t feel ready to be a dad. However, as his marriage is threatened by the return of his wife’s former lover, he finally decides to take action in pursuit of growth.
Maggie is a magician, who also runs a pharmacy with her husband Igor. In her late 30s, Maggie is desperate to have children before her “eggs expire” but Igor seems unable to do so. Annoyed but still supportive, Maggie sticks with Igor even when he goes on live television to ingest DMT.
A handsome and charming Australian man, Jack runs into his old pals Igor and Maggie at a drug store, and is constantly flirting with Maggie. He stays stable and comforts Maggie while Igor decides to go on “Trip or Treat.”
