About the project: Crimes of the Heart is set in a small Mississippi town where family secrets are never sacred and bad news travels fast. At the heart of the story are the three McGrath sisters, who never can seem to catch a break. The sisters meet when youngest of the bunch shoots her husband, naive to the gravity of her situation. Their narcissistic cousin, who can’t seem to step ahead without stepping on them, lives next door. Just to complicate matters, the cast is rounded out by a love-sick lawyer and an abandoned lover. Together, these characters unravel a tale of humor, heartbreak, and the unexpected bonds that hold them together when life falls apart. Additional info: Performance dates/show times: 12 performances, March 28th – April 20th, 2025 Friday and Saturday evening performances at 7:30 PM, and Sunday matinees at 2:00 PM. The oldest sister. Lenny is insecure about most things in her life, but especially about her relationships with men. She has a difficult relationship with her sister Meg and hides in her caregiving, which gives her an excuse to stay home.
The middle sister. Meg moved to Hollywood to pursue her singing career, seemingly abandoning her sisters and her relationship with Doc. She appears to live her life in the moment, but may not be as steely hard as she seems.
The youngest sister. Babe is the most fragile of the sisters. A dreamer and innocent, she’s not quite sure what all the fuss is about her shooting her husband.
The sisters’ first cousin. Chick is brassy, loud and continually passes judgment on her cousins and how they live their lives.
Meg’s old boyfriend. Doc is now married with two children, but the flame he carries for Meg still burns bright.
Babe’s lawyer. Barnette is a recent law school graduate who is competent beyond his years. He has a soft spot for Babe and wants to protect her from her abusive husband.
