About the project: "Set in the little village of Anatevka, the story centers on Tevye, a poor milkman, and his five daughters. With the help of a colorful and tight-knit Jewish community, Tevye tries to protect his daughters and instill them with traditional values in the face of changing social mores and the growing anti-Semitism of Czarist Russia. Rich in historical and ethnic detail, Fiddler on the Roof's universal theme of tradition cuts across barriers of race, class, nationality and religion, leaving audiences crying tears of laughter, joy and sadness." Rate: Please note this is a non-paying production. Additional info: Non-union. AUDITION PREP Upon applying, you will receive an email confirming your time slot. At that time, you will also be sent a link to audition materials, as vocal auditions will consist of songs from the show. Even if you are auditioning for multiple roles, please just pick one song to sing at auditions. The audition materials will be organized by character and contain audio and video files of the songs with lyrics, as well as PDF sheet music. Please also review the document that breaks down the songs by character. You will audition with the same backing track provided in the audition materials (Note that while they are using tracks for auditions, a live pit orchestra will be utilized for performances). There will be a dance audition for everyone; please dress comfortably. REHEARSAL SCHEDULE Rehearsals will begin on or around Wednesday, February 26 and the schedule will be built around actor availability. Not every actor will be called to every rehearsal. Tentatively, rehearsals will be Sundays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays. Please refrain from auditioning if you have any conflicts with tech week (April 26-May 1) or any performance. The Dairyman; likeable and hard-working, always tries to see the positive side of life. He is a proud patriarch and father of five daughters, closely raised according to the old scriptures. Must have excellent stage presence and vocal stamina. (Vocal Range: F4 - Ab2)
Strong-willed, hardworking, and wary. She is Tevye's wife who wishes for her daughters to have good husbands and live easier than she and Tevye. Must have excellent stage presence and vocal stamina. (Vocal Range: Eb5 - A3)
Observant, passionate, and dubious of the town’s traditions. Tevye's eldest daughter, who is madly in love with Motel. (Vocal Range: D5-B3)
Spirited, loyal, and cautious. Tevye's second eldest daughter, who surprises herself when she develops feelings for Perchik. She eventually leaves Anatevka to join Perchik in Siberia. (Vocal Range: E5-B3)
Curious, book-smart, and big-hearted. She is Tevye's middle daughter who eventually falls in love and runs off with Fydeka, a Russian soldier. (Vocal Range: D5-B3)
The Matchmaker; she is a widow and village busybody who knows all of the town gossip and is always present. (Vocal Range: F5-F3)
The Tailor; Poor and meek, with a deep love for Tzeitel. Sensitive and nervous, but sincere and friendly. (Vocal Range: F#4 - E3)
The Student; Outspoken visitor to Anatevka, who constantly challenges the traditions of the town. He eventually falls in love with Hodel. (Vocal Range: E4-B2)
The Soldier; A strong, young Russian soldier who sees past his military obligations and falls in love with Chava. He challenges Tevye's imposed silence.
Lazar's Wolf's deceased first wife. She becomes enraged when her husband plans to wed Tzeitel. (Vocal Range: Eb5-C4)
Golde's deceased grandmother, who endorses the marriage between Tzeitel and Motel. (Vocal Range: D5-C#4)
The feisty, brawny butcher and the town's wealthiest citizen who wishes to marry Tzeitel. (Vocal Range: F#4-C3)
Runs the local bookshop and keeps the town advised of all the news in the area. (Vocal Range: Eb4-D3)
