"Book Of Days" Audition for the Theater
Performers are needed for "Book Of Days" Please see the details below. Additional info: Most of these will be pretty standard characters. But director are looking for archetypes not stereotypes. Archetypes are realistic but recognizable people (the wealthy, influential landowner, the staid, opinionated Christian wife) while stereotypes are exaggerated versions of the same people, played for comedy or insult (Boss Hogg or The Church Lady). Len’s Wife, bookkeeper at the cheese plant, regularly cast in local musical productions, honest, not one to hide her feelings
Martha’s son, Ruth’s Husband, manager at the cheese plant, passionate about cheese, less so about his job, earnest, quietly confident
Hollywood writer/director with early success but a tarnished rep now, a bit cynical, just trying to get on with his life, guest artist directing Saint Joan
Youngest character, Boyd’s assistant/girlfriend, energetic, regularly involved in the community theatre
Len’s mother, former flower child; still a bit of a rebel and free spirit, but head of a local Christian junior college, cheerful with an easy laugh
Sharon’s husband, owner of the cheese plant; wealthiest local resident, gruff, influential and knows it; fond of Len and recognizes his vision
Walt’s wife, pious, conservative in social questions, appearance is important; dedicated to Walt
Louanne’s husband, Walt and Sharon’s son, star athlete and Casanova in HS (peaked in HS?) went to law school, recently passed the Bar, political ambitions
James’ wife, traditional wife, neither happy nor unhappy with James, firebrand when crossed
Working man, dairy inspector at the cheese plant; thinks Len is uppity, jealous of his success, school friend of James
Pious, sincere in his religion, sees all things through a Christian lens; very traditional and stiff, but willing to admit his mistakes (to a point)
Local sheriff, honest but unmotivated; more interested in peace and easy answers than deep investigation
