"Railroad" Stage Play Searching for Cast

About the project: Railroad is an intense anti-epic that explodes outward in the human dimensions of three families from three cultures (Nazi-German, Jewish-German, 21st-century American), four generations, and two eras. It blends typically distinct theatrical styles (expressionism, surrealism, and naturalism) to create the pressure of confinement (a boxcar: whirling hope and desperation spiraling into a black hole) and the joy of childish dreams, the lack of air and the freedom of flight (emigration), the bleakness of the black German Lugar and the audaciously bright colors of the American flag, all churning in contradictory directions at once. Rate: Potential stipend. Additional info: NOTE: this play contains physical and s*xual violence, adult language and scenes of intimacy. There will be an intimacy and fight director present at all rehearsals. Note all characters are played by adults 18+. Rehearsals: Beginning Monday, January 13th, 2025 and running Monday-Thursday 7:00-10:00PM and Saturdays 10:00-4:00PM. Performance Dates: February 22nd-March 1st. If you are interested, please apply.

Jewish woman, matriarch, wife to Joel, Mother to Libi and Daniel. Caring, steadfast woman.
3, Jewish girl, too young to understand the world she’s in. A representation of innocence.
7, Jewish boy. Loving, though a bit selfish in the way young boys are. Has a slight understanding of the situation their family is in but only as he understands the emotional distress.
High ranking SS Major. Husband to Marie, Patriarch. Fiercely nationalist. Cheerful, an optimist. Willing to do anything for his country and family. At the deepest part of himself a self-preservationist.
Wife to Klaus, cheerfully willing member of the Nazi party. She is loving and a very proud woman.
7, Klaus & Marie's son, member of Hitler’s youth. Joyfully nationalist. Has a rudimentary understanding of defeating the enemy and preserving the country.
3, Klaus & Marie's daughter, nationalist despite being too young to understand.
Speaks only German. (Played by Klaus). Member of SS and Nazi party. Harsh, uncaring, violent. Enjoys the work he’s been sent to do. Hates Jewish people and wants to eliminate them rather than the vigor we see for the Nazi party from the Reinhard’s
65+ (same actor as Marie). Kind and discerning, someone who wants to survive and take care of those close to her.
Jewish woman who has immigrated to America. Kind but has been through a lot. (Played by Hannah)
